Description This big fella was floating in a pond atop a bed of something that looked like moss. He showed no signs of fear when I snapped his picture and seemed to be enjoying the cool water.

Thanks, Barbara. Isn't he a beauty? I love how frogs always seem to be smiling and having a good time in the pond...despite appearances to the contrary, their lives are perilous, though. I saw a big, black bird trying to gobble them up when I was taking pictures...he was going for the little ones. Ugh!

So would I! But in a nice, clean pond....not one that is full of algae, moss, and animal stuff. I wish we had nice clean ponds around here, but we don't...*sigh*

Thank you! I love frogs...but everyone must know this by now. This guy was one of the few frogs that was not particularly afraid of me. The others jumped in and hid, though.

I like how he looks brown in the water and green above the water and then he looks as if he has some striping, very cool looking frog there. And I think anyone would be enjoying a soak in a pond when it's been so dang hot Nice one!

desmo100 In reply to LoriVintage55 [2007-07-11 20:36:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Lori. I think their coloring is like that...they do seem to have greenish-brown backs and legs, but lots of green on their faces. The wee ones seem to be all brownish-green. They really looked happy floating in that nice cool water! I felt like jumping in, except things were muddy and icky.

Osa-Art-Farm In reply to desmo100 [2007-07-10 15:01:07 +0000 UTC]

I think about why I like them and I have come up with this: Besides being cute and making fun noises at night, it is possible to catch one with your hand and look at it up close. They don't claw you or bite to try to get away. They just wait for an opportunity to jump. They have no defenses other than their color and leaping speed and they never hurt a ... well maybe a fly. lol. I don't live where the poison ones are so I don't know about them.
Frogs are also an indicator of the state of the enviroment!
In all honesty, when I was a kid, we lived on a lake and used to catch and eat them, omg they were so delcious. (Getting them at a restaraunt is entirely different and not worth the bother. Boring and tastless). Many years ago, I decided to catch some and show my husband and kids how good they were. But wait! Don't hate me! I barely got thru the process and I got sick at the thought afterwards. I have been frog free for 20 years.

Hey! I don't hate anyone for eating frogs. I would rather they wouldn't, but to each his own, as they say. I ate fried frog legs many years ago (bought them in the grocery store), but they were kind of dry and stringy. Now I realize frogs are disappearing, so I only take their pictures. They are truly wonderful critters and bring joy to me and loads of other people. I used to hold them in my hand when i was a kid, and they never tried to bite, but they did pee once in awhile! So did turtles....that's the way it was being a kid back in the 50s!

yes, I just wanted you to know I was 'reformed' in way less than 12 steps lol.

I have a frog in my scraps and my daughter just photo'd one this week which is in her gallery. She told me about the environment club. I wanted to save the world once, now she does. Hope she can do it.

I still want to help save it if I can. I don't have kids, but I want to leave the world in the best shape that I can.
