Today was my lucky day! I found this Eastern Box Turtle wandering on the same road I was on, so I asked him to pose for a moment.Related content

How beautiful! I love these guys, they can have great personalities. Looks like he's got a bit of a "battle wound", missing a couple toes.. Poor guy!

Thank you. No doubt he's seen his share of hard living. But I'm just happy that they're still around! When we moved to N. VA in 1949, turtles were everywhere! As a kid, I loved finding them in the garden eating Dad's tomatoes.

Thank you! Turtles can be remarkably colorful; I saw this one way down the road (luckily). Its colors disguise it amongst the leaves, but help drivers avoid it on the roadway.

I know, I adore some of the colors I see on box turtles. Most the time, in this area, we run by he duller colored ones. They are still absolutely precious, though.

I used to see painted turtles swimming in the local ponds, but haven't seen one of those for many years. I'd love to see one; they are so beautifully colored!

Oh yes! I LOVE painted turtles! Whenever I go to the beach, I find myself turtle watching quite a bit. They're very numerous off the coast of the state I'm in.

Thank you very much! Eastern box turtles were very common at one time (in Virginia), but over the years, housing development took over their habitat. So I was overjoyed to see this fellow wandering about in one of our local parks!

It's technically illegal to take wildlife home as pets, I found out a few years ago! Also, I think turtles are happier in the wild, so I just leave 'em alone. However, when I was a kid, I'd keep them for awhile as pets (before it was illegal).

I think it's illegal here because many species are disappearing (due to encroaching civilization), and the state governments want to keep as many animals out there as possible. Also, wild turtles may be difficult to raise, and some people don't have the patience it takes to be a good turtle owner!

I see...well Indonesia hasn't have too many law about animal preservation, there's good and bad thing about this condition tho.
One of my students owns a big turtle and it's quite old, it used to belong to his grandpa

The only place I have seen Turtles is a at the zoo and one at a private home kept as a pet. I get lovely animals in front of your lens
