Nice! Say, when you do these studies, do you simply sit down and try to paint accurately as best you can or do you also follow some kind of guide?

Heh good question, besides the reference pic you choose, or the still life set up you have in front of you, there isn't really a set list of rules to follow. I personally just try to paint as these as accurately as I can, Β however, there are times where I am simply trying to focus on one aspect of my painting, so I may leave these very rough because of that.Β
So, no there isn't a specific guide you need to follow, but you will need to probably limit yourself in some way, so you don't get overwhelmed, ie how many objects you're doing, how polished you want the piece to be.

I see. I hadn't thought of putting certain restrictions on a drawing so that I could focus on just one aspect more. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

On worries! Yeah one thing about doing studies, sometimes you have to set limits or else you find that the thing you set out to draw, to be so completely overwhelming that you quit before you really even got started. Setting limits helps you fine tune one aspect of your art one at a time
