Description After a very exhausting and risky duel between the nameless Pharaoh and Dark Marik, which winner was the Pharaoh, Marik’s dark half was sealed away in the Shadow Realm. After those events, Marik had set sail to his homeland- Egypt.

He was standing on the bow of the ship gazing the ocean, which was reflecting the black and blue shades of the nightsky. The full-moon and the stars were the only sources of light which were reflecting on the never-ending sea.

He sighed. A picture of a very special person had passed from his mind. That person had helped him to create the Rare Hunters, but that special person was a riddle by herself.

“You were one of the foundations, which helped my hideous ambitions almost come true. You helped me form the Rare Hunters, but you knew you won’t be there for a long time. That’s why you followed me so taken. However, those crimes were making you sorrowful and sick; they weren’t for you.” he thought. “Back then, I was so hollow… and so vicious… and –maybe- so afraid that I couldn’t let myself to see the truth. But you knew the worst will soon happen; that’s why you had left a day before our departure to Domino City… the only thing you left behind was a reassignment note with a verse on it.’

He put out the note from his pocket.

“(Y/n)…” he muttered. He started reading the verse.

“You were that foundation
Never gonna be another one, no.
I followed, so taken
So conditioned I could never let go
Then sorrow, then sickness
Then the shock when you flip it on me
So hollow, so vicious
So afraid I couldn't let myself see
That I could never be held
Back or up no, I'll hold myself
Check the rep, yep you know mine well
Forget the rest let them know my hell
There and back yet my soul ain't sell
Kept respect up, the best they fell,
Let the rest be the tale they tell
That I was there saying…”

“That’s your favorite song!” he said to himself. “But, as arrogant and selfish I ignored it. I didn’t know that the song was reflecting us back then! (Y/n), you’re a mystery by yourself… I’d better start solving the puzzle you left to me.”

Marik glanced back to the moon, while was singing the chorus of your favorite song.

“In these promises broken
Deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
so one last lie I can see through
this time I finally let you
Go, go, go.”
~~~~~
Meanwhile, you were in your room. You had laid down on your bed, with your wrist covering your (e/c) eyes. You were thinking the semi-finals of the Battle City tournament and the monstrous actions Marik had done.
Even though, you were well- aware of his actions, something pushed you to watch the tournament and that were making you feel more confused.
“Oh God! Why are testing me like that? I know that, if I gonna stack them up again and again, the conclusion remains the same. I don’t care if the others are saying that he has a good side, everything I saw are refuting the rumors.”, you exclaimed to yourself.“However, when his dark side took over him, I’ve sensed-even though I was miles away- his frustration…”
When you realized what you had just said, you shook your head to snap out of it.
“No way (Y/n)! You can’t feel sorry for him, after everything he’d done! Back then, you were occupied from your feelings… I won’t let myself being crossed and lost into my emotions. I’ve come back unshaken from them. Now, neither my past, nor my little crush on that monster holds me back…”
Suddenly, the picture of Marik-the good one (after all, you’d met him way before his dark side took over and he was still evil, but not so evil as he was during the finals) - showed up in your mind and made your heart skip a beat, making you lose your train of thought.
You blushed while you were thinking of him. You shook you head one more time.
“I can’t fall back. I came too far.” You said, but you couldn’t resist to your heart anymore.
‘I can’t take it anymore! That song fits him so much!’ you thought. ‘Besides those notes are the test to prove, if Marik is really good or bad person. Let’s see if Marik can change his image, I had for him.”
With that you stood up, took a pencil and a paper and started writing the verse of your favorite song- back you were left of.
“Test my will, test my heart
Let me tell you how the odds gonna stack up
Y'all go hard, I go smart
How's that working out for y'all in the back, huh?
I've seen that frustration
Been crossed and lost and told "No"
And I've come back unshaken
Let down and lived and let go
So you can let it be known
I don't hold back, I hold my own
I can't be mapped, I can't be cloned
I can't C-flat, it ain't my tone
I can't fall back, I came too far
Hold myself up and love my scars
Let the bells ring wherever they are
'Cause I was there saying...”
While you were writing this you were singing the chorus.
“In these promises broken
Deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you go!!!
Go, go, go.”
When you finished, you folded it up, stood up and exited your room.
‘That is a test of heart, Marik… do you understand it?’ you thought.
~~~~~

Marik was sprinting with his motorbike, in order to reach at the meeting place you had written on your note- which was also containing the continuation of the song. While he was driving, he recalled all the moments he had with you. That time, he won’t back down to tell you his feelings for you.

‘(Y/n)! I’m sorry for making you feel uncomfortable and unsafe in front of me...’ he thought ‘I’ve changed, I can assure you. Even though, you won’t accept me, I won’t bow! I’ll show you how much I love you!’

He reached a rocky area; a cliff which had a breath-taking view of Cairo. Marik climbed off his motorcycle, walked to the railing, which they were on the edge of the cliff, and gazed the astonishing view together with the sunset, that was slowly coming.

While the time was passing, the smooth violet-eyed Egyptian started losing his hope about you. He sighed at the idea, you wouldn’t come. The sun was now hiding behind the buildings. He glanced at your note and he accepted the fact that it was late and you won’t come.

He was ready to sigh again, but some footsteps interrupted his blues. He turned. Then, surprise and happiness conquered his heart, he faced you.

“(Y/n)!” he exclaimed. “I’m so glad to see you again!”

He was about to hug you, but you beckoned him to stop.

“Marik… it’s been awhile when we were partners at crime. I want you to know that I’d changed way before I left the Rare Hunters. However, something was holding me back and delaying my resignation…”

When you were saying these, you had your fingers crossed in front of your stomach and
your face looked emotionless. That moment you were dead serious.

“(Y/n)… I’m sorry for everything I have done to you…” he muttered.

You pretended that you didn’t hear it, because your doubtful side was telling you not to trust him, on the other hand he sounded so truthful.

“Marik; you were the one who was holding me back!” you exclaimed.

There was one minute silence. Then, Marik spoke breaking it.

“Me?” he made a pause to think about it. “I understand… you were afraid, because I could have sent you to the Shadow Realm back then. But now, I’ve changed. You can tell me or do to me whatever you want, I won’t harm you. I understand, why are blaming me (Y/n), I was senseless and I’d put you into a lot of trouble… those kind of stuff weren’t for you.”

You stepped aback with those words he said. That was neither the Marik you’d met- the leader of the Rare Hunters- nor the one you saw at the Battle City finals.

'So he, indeed, has a good side.’ You thought with a relieving smile forming on your lips.

Marik continued his apology.

“At the beginning, when you left the first note, I ignored it; but I was sad because of your resignation. When the Battle City tournament started, I was too busy to investigate your mysterious disappearance. When I was returning I had the chance to re-read your note and solve the riddle you had sent to me.” he made a pause and then continued. “I’m such an idiot that it hadn’t passed from my mind before. You were suffering there… and you were scared. I convinced you to join in the Rare hunters with broken promises… every word I said to you was hollow and was getting lost in the echo. I’m sure the next thing you await from me is another lie.”

His voice was charged and shaky, his true feelings about you were about to come up to the surface. The cornsilk haired boy lowered his head and stared to the brown rocky ground.
He was expecting to hear your footsteps sound fading away from his auditory field.
Instead of that, you came closer to him and with your left hand lifted his chin, so he can eye at you. With your right hand placed on his shoulder, you sang.

“No, you can tell 'em all now
I don't back up, I don't back down
I don't fold up, and I don't bow
I don't roll over, don't know how
I don't care where the enemies are
Can't be stopped, all I know; go hard
Won't forget how I got this far
For every time saying…”

You stopped and exclaimed.

“Yes! You had changed!”

Marik wasn’t able to answer, when he felt your lips touching his. He was shocked by your sudden action, but soon he depended on your kiss.

When you broke apart, Marik was blushing and looked at the same time confused.

You let out a small giggle with his reaction.

“As I can see, you need some explanations about this.” You took a serious expression that moment. “Marik Ishtar, I joined the Rare Hunters, because I liked you. I delayed my resignation, because I believed you had the good inside you. For a moment, I believed I was into a dead end of my emotions, due to your horrible actions during the tournament. But your change and regret- for everything you’d done- set me free from that and showed me, how I truly feel about you.”

With that confession, Marik’s thoughts became clear about you. He placed his hand on your (h/c) hair and guided your head to lean on his well-toned chest. The sun was fully set together with you hugging each other and crooning the chorus of your favorite song.

“In these promises broken
Deep below
Each word gets lost in the echo
So one last lie I can see through
This time I finally let you
Go, go, go.
Go. go, go.”

“I love you Marik.” you muttered.

“I love you too (Y/n).” he replied.
