Intoxicating and overwhelming... that urge to draw.Having never been a smoker, I've struggled to understand why someone would want to pick it up. While talking with an old friend who had started the habit again after quitting for a year, he explained it to me "It's like having you own window of time; a box which you know will be filled up only with this, nothing else, your mind can wander anywhere. You hold a small corner of the world to just yourself for those few minutes"
His words surprised me, that's just how I feel whilst drawing. It's my own little space I have to to myself, where I can let my mind wander, relieve my stress, and not worry about anything else. And believe me, if I am not able to do it I get grumpy! XD Like it's my addiction. I'd never thought of it that way before...
This is in no way an avocation of starting smoking though
The friend has since quit again and I'm very proud of him. I think my drawing addiction will be harder to kick, so I medicate with daily doses of doodling, and new sketchbook monthly, seems to do the trick 
Was having some serious urges after traveling so much I could fit barely any drawing in, can you believe it's been a month since I posted there?! Gosh, thanks for sticking around, you're great guys
So I drew this in remembrance for the month I gave up my addiction for Not too happy with the face, but I've got to get back into practice Peace, love and healthy addictions,

i love the colour palette and her expression is so powerful. Your ideas are so spectacular. Each work is unique.
I think this is my favourite piece of all you have uploaded. It really speaks to me and i know just how you feel about drawing. It is addictive. I may get tired somedays and I think
'Hey, maybe I won't bother sketching today."
But I always end up drawing because it brings my mind to life and really puts me in a good mood, despite the failures I produce on the page.
I can't say I understand why someone begins to smoke in the first place ( nowadays there is far less pressure to smoke and I seriously doubt everyone is bullied into smoking), but it was a good metaphor and comparison for this piece.
Also, anyone I have met that smokes normally does not do it because they like the experience, as your friend did. They say they hate it, but in stressful times, it gives them something to do with their fingers and heads. It doesn't get rid of the stress or give them a moment of peace; it is just similar to how some people bite their nails. It is a habit that means they are not focusing right on the issues at hand.
It was interesting to hear a different view on it.

I've never cared much for drawing. It's more something I do when I'm bored. But after learning I could make good money from drawing, I started doing it more, I suppose. Call it shallow, but we all have bills to pay <.<

I love the colors that you used, the contrast and the light it has. As to the concept, drawing and writing for me
I didn't even realize how bad until we renovated our house, updating the old wiring and stuff. I had to pack away my writing/drawing stuff for a few months. Felt... dry? I don't know how to describe it, really. And my stuff stayed packed even after we finished, because life just got busy, so it was nearly a year before I unpacked it all. And going through it was like a punch to the gut. It just hit me so very hard how much I'd missed my stories and (crappy) drawings, and like... like a joint being put back into place, I guess.
So, yeah, addiction?

I know what that's like. Except that with me and story writing. I will always find myself thinking about new characters, worlds, governments, civilizations, wars and so on. The only time I ever stop is when I have something important to do or when I'm asleep. >w<
