ok, let's get a bit serious here
for those of you who know the games, you may ask why this model don't look like the original marker from the game
well, as i recieved the original 3d model from and some other versions from other sources, i noticed that the original texture looks boring and stupid because of the missing blur and glow effects what are just impossible in real life
so i decided to build this model as desktop statue like what you can see sometimes in the game
also i had to remove this inner steps, these steps would have made the model ββa lot more harder because they were not stright
so i removed them
all in all, i think it looks good
by the way, you don't have to use a stone texture, i noticed that the model looks also good with wood, metal and other textures
i guess even in white it will look cool
ok now
to the important part
model description:
the model comes on 5 pages (page six for instructions and credits)
with 50 pieces and is 30cm tall
the pedestal contains a blank cylinder out of paper (comes with the sheets)
and the model a bit of weight that it doesn't fall down
pls read the instructions closely
file description:
by downloading the package you will get
as always three pdo files
one with texture and folding lines
one with texture and without folding lines
and one white version with folding lines
so you need as always the Pepakura Viewer which you can download here
ALSO this time two pdf's
one white with all lines
and one without lines (20% line opacity)
some modified slate textures from
with color gradients in red, blue, violette, green/cyan and black
some wood textures
and the original texture
if you have any problems ore questions
feel free to ask
to download the model
click on the download button on the right side
you can thank dA for, that i can't write the direct link anymore
some word to the bloggers
you have the permission to use my photos
this model is a Deviantart only download
so do not upload this model somewhere else
and the most important thing
this model is free and should it be
so let it be!
and trust me, i search for my stuff
feel also free to write a critique

The Marker plays a somewhat peripheral yet important role in the Dead Space universe. As such I feel it's an important "character" within the series. Thus any depiction or representation of the Marker should capture it's foreboding and ominous essence to be successful.
This paper craft representation does just that. Despite, or perhaps because, of the departure from the original texture this model conveys a sense of mystery and other-worldliness. The curvature and flow of the lines draws the viewer from the sharp, almost threatening twin points down along the sinuous and sexy shape of the base; leaving the viewer adrift in a strange sea of texture and colour. The stand itself has a wonderful and simple wood texture with a straightforward unassuming central logo. At no point does the base detract or steal attention away from the Marker. Rather it adds the feeling that this sculpture belongs wherever it's displayed.
As I'm unable to use PDO files this portion of the review is in regard to the PDF variant. The layout of the Marker and the arrangement of tabs for building is nice and simple with no overly complex folding or scoring required. The use of many "tiers" in the build also gives the model a decent amount of inner structural support. I personally would have preferred the continuation of the "tiering" down into the base rather than the use of large pieces but that's a minor quibble and a point of personal preference. I would have also liked a lined and textured version supplied in PDF format but again that's personal preference.
The model overall is fairly straightforward and the sparseness of the supplied instructions reflects this. Builders are generously supplied with various textures, which rival this version in personality, as well as a blank Marker with which to modify and personalize their own.
The Dead Space universe has very few figures or props with which fans may sate their appetites. As such this paper craft is a must for Dead Space fans as well as a nice addition to any paper craft or prop/replica collection(even if you don't know or like the background mythology it's still a sexy model).

hey there
i thank you thank you thank very much for this critique
this saved my day
and it's actually the first serious critique i recieved
ahm i don't know exactly how i should say that right
but with the next lines i don't wanna sneak out of the range
just a bit tenchnique blablubb
you wrote about the tiers
and that they should go from top to the base
at first i thought about that to, but i thought more efficient because in that way it need more work
(was is actually nessesary )
also about a totally flat version like the lower side
but that would increase the difficult level and also there would be a problem at the middle part
about the lined version
i didn't upload a lined textured pdf version
because it would be useless, you wouldn't see them
and if someone want to change the texture, he has the viewer and also the lineless pdo version
but, and that's for all out here
if someone can't open pdo's (mac, linux user) and wan't to change the texture
tell me, i change it and send the pdf's
special service
but anyway
again thank you very much for the critique
i really apreciate it

You're quite welcome, it was my first critique. There are two reasons I would have liked the tiers to continue down the entire model: 1 stability and 2 consistency of appearance. The many tiers gives the piece a stronger build in my opinion and I think the tiered pieces compliment this model and adds to the overall awesomeness of the look you've created.
I totally understand that it would have been more challenging and less efficient, I just think it would have been cooler, lol. Just my opinion though, it's still a great build! Thanks!

Hay I just wanted to let you know I've made several alternative textures for this papercraft, and put them online to share. I've wanted to build this papercraft for over a year, but was very particular about wanting the runes on it..... fav.me/dacg7tq

Read over your terms again and wanted to ask if it was alright that I included PDF versions of your papercraft in the .ZIP containing the alternative textures that I made----only PDFs exported with my modified textures applied; none of your original PDFs, and certainly no PDO. I included those PDFs 99% for my own personal convenience because I also rearranged the 2D layout to shave two sheets off the number of pages required, and 1% because some people live on Linux and can't open Pepakura Viewer to apply my alternative textures to your template for themselves.Β I really hope you're okay with all that; I'll make it right if you're not.....

It might be just me being stupid, but however hard I try, I can't seem to connect 4th and 5th segments of the tower. The fifth one is just too big. Am I doing something wrong? That's my third attempt at papercraft, but maybe it's just not for me.

I really love this marker, but I haven't really had the opportunity to enjoy it. I've noticed ever since I put this on my desk at work, my coworkers have become very paranoid and in some cases downright violent and insane. This is a complete coincidence right?Β

Have you got the pdf file with the original textures rather then the rock texture? That would be awesome if you did. It would help me draw out the Marker with all its details for my comic. That way I would be able to see all the angles of this magnificent object. Looks awesome by the way. Something so simple yet awesome.

This marker amazing, I made a few of them, but would you consider making a little Ishimura desktop statue? They could be seen in dead space 2, and I believe marker and Ishimura statues would make a perfect combination in every gamer's room.

Much to my surprise, this was one of the easiest papercrafts I've ever built. The part layout was very easy to follow without part numbers. I found that the best way to build the towers was to make rings and pull the previous assembly through the new ring, making all the folds line up nicely. I also resined the inside once I finished the model to give it more weight and stability. Thank you for this fantastic model!
