Description
As a race of preternatural beings living in between the Regular and Minus realms, these scientific impossibilities may offer clues to the true appearance of Minus World.Nihilo Squids have as much relation to their namesake lifeform as Minus (Nihilo) Worm s, that is to say, none at all. They are the second form of life to be discovered in the in-between, and were given the Nihilo prefix from the start. Unlike the former species, Nihilo Squids vary immensly from individual to individual in size, tentacle length, tentacle number, and to a very small extent, hue. Only their heads seem to be exact copies of eachother, albeit ones of different sizes. Some researchers have likened Nihilo Squids to biological crystals, growing out from a central base and forming according to loose algorithms.
Nihilo Squids are more active creatures, prone to speeding along in seemingly random directions and chasing down smaller lifeforms (native or foreign) that enter a radius unique to each individual. They then ensnare the smaller creature and drain some unknown property that minimizes their prey's size while maintaining all proportions. The resulting micro-creature will likely continue to move and reproduce, only on a scale several orders of magnitude smaller. This means that nearly every creature has a micro-variant species created by Nihilo Squids. When this shadow ecosystem of tiny entities becomes too dense, an unknown psionic energy is triggered that forces them to assemble in the form of another Nihilo Squid forever.
It is unknown if the "normal" sized lifeforms currently observed are indeed micro versions of an even larger ecosystem, or if they will at any time conglomerate into a leviathan Nihilo Squid that functions identically in its larger environment.
