Description
Torphiz are all about psionic ability, but their history and lifestyle are rather unique.

Torphiz are a membranous species said to come from a planet that was little more than a core surrounded by liquid. The extent of dichotomy within their world is unknown, but the Torphiz species was supposedly gifted the power of psychic ability through lucky mutation. Those that had the ability survived and triumphed over those that did not, and over time their enigmatic generational mutations gave them more and more mental prowess. Eventually their genes began to stagnate, but the Torphiz race had become ambitious over their many generations, and when their own planet had nothing left to offer, they set out for others. At this point in time, Torphiz were not only psionically powerful enough to float in air, but could travel through, and sustain themselves in space itself. Droves of Torphiz migrated from the planet, individually seeking out ways to augment themselves, but sharing a complex telepathic network with the others, such that the discoveries of one would be the discoveries of all. The species traveled and looked, though they did not know what they were looking FOR. It was only much later that found their answer: other races, and their technological abilities.

Torphiz have a now-universal method of living life: they explore and search for sentient lifeforms, then task those lifeforms with a single goal: improving the mental capacities of the Torphiz race. Though both powerful and power hungry, they are not a warmongering race, and prefer peaceful compliance or manipulation to brutality, but that is simply because sometimes brutality provides no answers, only destroys the potential for them. It is not uncommon for Torphiz to force, one way or another, a species to research its goals. Fortunately they do not expect races to fully re-prioritize and are content with minor devotion to research, as long as it is stable. Torphiz are power hungry, but oddly methodical.

Rumors say that Torphiz did not always appear this way; the race used to have many more arms and a thicker body shape, but allowed them to genetically atrophy because they served no purpose. It is thought that in the distant future, Torphiz will no longer have a body at all and instead be floating nuclei sustained through their own inner ability.

Due to the Torphiz's mental and technical development, they are one of the dominant races in Phantom's reality.
