Description
‘Die you faceless spawn of evil!!!'
“Normally the Necromancers are content to send hordes of Boneheads after me, … which usually provides a pretty good workout,… but every so often they decide to get ‘creative’,…. *grumble* In this case with Golems.
Faceless creatures of mud and stone and dark magic, … tougher and stronger than the average Bonehead, and slightly smarter, …. In other words, harder to deal with. Luckily, they are fewer in number, … I guess maybe they are harder to make or something, … but they don’t go down as easily as a Bonehead, … and they can hit hard. Still, if you hit them hard enough, in the right spots, they crumble into the mud and stone they are made of, … they are a tough fight, … I just have to be tougher.
So much for a relaxing day at the beach, …”
‘Okay, … who’s next?!’

But now in fabulous color, thanks to
Once again, I loved the picture done on Shonuff’s Sunday Stream so much I just had to have it colored, and I’m so glad I did. The colors add so much life to Ember and this image as a whole,… that lovely tanned skin and the greens of her outfit look so vibrant. I love how the sunrise in the background was colored, and feel the lighting effect that comes from it is quite nice, both on her and on the ‘Mud Golems’ with the shadows, shine and even the slight glow off certain portions. Normally there isn’t a gradient between the red and black portions of her hair, but in this case, against the backdrop of the rising sun, I think it looks good, the growing light perhaps not having caught the red edges fully to brighten them all the way. All in all a great piece that I feel was made even better. And I’m quite pleased with how the Golems came out, the muddy, earth tones used were quite fitting.
What do you think?

Its similar to my style, I have a fetish for strong lady showing through her reveling armor. Im curious for what happened here, looks like one of the guy did something 'inappropriate'

I've long been fond of the Jungle Girl look, which tends to be on the skimpy side when it comes to clothing, yet covers what it needs to. They are Golems sent after her by one of the other villains on her island, like it says in the description.

The leaves she wears are actually as durable as metal, so they provide as much protection as chain-mail, but if she wore more it would hinder her mobility.

I would use different explanation, what about she don't need to hind behind all that hard stuff because that would prevent her use 'magic powers' also she being a highly moded being, she can self heal that negate any minor 'inconviences', and recover inhumanly fast from injury.

Dethmetal In reply to 4-X-S [2020-03-29 03:20:38 +0000 UTC]
Hmm,... interesting ideas, but I don't think they would suit what I had in mind for her. She doesn't have 'magic powers' that wearing armor would hinder her from using,... but she relies on her speed and agility, which heavier gear would hinder, but I still see it as a choice, not a restriction. I've never thought of her as being 'heavily modded', she has been granted some protections from some elements, but that's about it, the rest is just skill and some magical weapons. Her hair flower does heal her, as needed, though the effect is faster in certain areas than others, as it needs to draw in ambient natural and elemental energy to do so.

Do whatever you have to, I thought having instant healing instead of being indestructible is a much more 'feminine' type of power. But use whatever suits your lore. Actually the ambient energy is similar to my idea on why she wear the reveling armor, of course mobility can be another good reason. TBH I really don;t like people comment on how the heroine need wear the 'practical', why even make the comment if this isn't your thing. Almost none of the fantasy stuff are practical in our sense.

Dethmetal In reply to 4-X-S [2020-03-29 20:19:04 +0000 UTC]
Well, it was never my intention that she be 'indestructible', aside from acouple protections and some magical weapons, she is human, just very skilled. She can get hurt, which is why she has her flower to heal her when needed. Going with the Jungle Girl idea she would naturally wear a revealing outfit, but I thought it would be interesting to make it a little protective, while still favoring mobility, which is one of her greatest strengths, her speed and agility,... which I hope to show more in future pictures.
Yeah, I don't know why people do that either, everyone has their own tastes and feels the need to voice their opinion, which they are welcome to do. In Ember's case, she's a jungle island girl, a skimpy leafy outfit is the motif, but I tried to give it a little practicality, within that motif. But yeah, you are right, most fantasy stuff doesn't make practical sense, it's all about how it looks.
Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

Sorry I was describing the stereotype of strength, not literal invincibility. I think I been misreading her as some kind of nature goddess, if she is a human, then your logic makes sense. Im also into warrior girl in reveling outfit with agile movement, only they are cyborg, but beauty transcend these differences I believe. So good to hear your explanation, hasn't meet an artist with this level of responses, because you know they are all very 'shy' for some reason.

Dethmetal In reply to 4-X-S [2020-03-31 02:47:45 +0000 UTC]
Ah, okay, my mistake then, I misunderstood. I can certainly see why someone might think that from the images I've done of her, and I'm sure she'd be flattered someone thought she was a goddess of some kind. Ah, so you are more of a SciFi person in that regard then?
Well, in all fairness, I hardly consider myself an artist, this and the other pictures in my gallery were commissioned from others, in this case ShoNuff44. I just come up with the ideas and characters, and have others visualize them, though I am starting to try my hand at writing a little, mostly just the descriptions for these posts, but it's a start.
As for responsiveness, I feel if someone takes the time to comment, I should do the same in return. I do know alot of artists can be unresponsive, in alot of cases most are just very busy, I have found.

I use to be a Scfi person but now Im not so sure anymore, it ruined out Im more interested in magic powered machine more than the hard science stuff, these are actually very prevalent in Anime, its just often they just don't call it magic powered. The term 'artist' had long lost its meaning, the consensus give conflicting views, on the one hand anything can be art and anyone can be artist, on the other, everything is deprived of artistry, and artist is only a small often highly speech policed enclave. I do believe the same that I should return a comment with equal amount of content, the more someone willing to interact the more they care about, and greatly cherish this kind of 'caring'.

Yeah, tastes can change over time, I used to be alot more into Scifi stuff as well, and I still am into it,... but more than anything my heart lives in the depths of various tropical jungle islands these days. Yeah, I have always liked the idea of mixing magic and technology, my favorite iteration of it was in an old tabletop RPG called Rifts, in something called "Techno-Wizardry", where in a character could combine mystical elements, like crystals and runes, with technology to create a hybrid of both,... like guns that could shoot mystic lightning bolts, or swords that could conjure blades of telekinetic force,... and which needed to be recharged by pumping mystical energy into them. It was quite creative.
Hmm,... I guess I differ to older values regarding 'art' and 'artists', but I supposed the terms have become blurred over the years, which can both provide the opportunity for anyone to try their hand at being an artist, and rise to fame, and also somewhat lessen the value of art as a whole with their being so much of it out there.
Amount of content can vary, but I certainly believe that if someone takes the time and effort to provide a thoughtfully comment I should at-least attempt to do the same. Interaction and thoughtfulness should indeed be cherished and encouraged.

I used to like very sciencey stuff but later realized that is very limiting on imagination and story telling. SF is really a sub genre of fantasy, what it often describe isn't about science, it is about world view crafted from its aesthetic and narrative. And it is then I learn what I been interest in is the aesthetic and narrative not the science part. Again I mainly changed my taste after I got into anime also that's where I got that magic machine stuff. Giant robot sub genre and its influence on anime in general has a kind of worldview that is unique to itself. That is where you really cant classify it as SF or fantasy, and that kind of aesthetic (especially 90s-00s variant) is what I think a magic powered machine would look like. The appeal here is that the 'magic' aspect is not outwardly spoken but is the force that guides the world creation.
Appeal ans stylization aside, I cant get into both the SF and fantasy of modern mainstream IPs, mainly because there are too much 'try hard' attempts that taking things way too seriously. I like SF to have their ridiculous jump suit and fantasy have thier magic fairy.
I agree that art and artists are now days very loosely defined terms, bad for career but good from imagination and creativity. The most distinct change of game in our time is that you don't need to be an 'artist' to make art. Being an 'artist' means making art is important part of your identity but the product isn't tied in with the title anymore. And I think social media like DA contributed a great deal of our current view on artistry.

Well, I have to believe that that depends heavily on the particular SciFi in question,… there are a lot that limit themselves heavily,… remaining on or around Earth, trying to make the technology ‘believable’,… and things like that can serious hinder the narrative and creative potential. However that SciFi that doesn’t limit itself like that,… that goes off to other worlds, even other dimensions, where technology can bend the laws of reality,… that’s where things can get truly interesting, because the limits are so few. And I believe that is what Magic does when inserted into either true Fantasy, or Scifi, which I agree is a sub-genre of Fantasy, it gives the potential of removing limitations,... and I do agree that a good number of animes, especially in the 90’s, embraced that kind of thinking, particularly with the Giant Robot sub-genre. And yes, I have often found that when ‘magic’ is more subtle, and less defined, rather than where it is obvious and well understood,… the more subtle versions feel much more Primal.
Yeah, modern Scifi and Fantasy can be very hit or miss, I agree, and yeah, there are certain things that one does expect in one or the other.
Agreed, the terms have become much more loose in modern times, with the internet providing a greater outlet for exposure,… where in decades past an ‘artist’ often had to go great lengths to have their art seen and recognized, nowadays it is as easy as a few keystrokes and mouse clicks on a computer and suddenly your art is on display for the world to see. As you say, now it seems anyone can make art, whereas in the past you had to be an ‘artist’ to have your art displayed and recognized. Social media and sites like DA & FA are definitely a huge contributing factor towards this, and modern society’s view on this.
I must say, I enjoy your insights on these topics, if you would like to continue this discussion perhaps moving to DA notes would be easier, if you wish to, of course?
