Cainstown Massachusetts...Halloween, 1987

Archimedes Obvious, Professor Obvious to her archaeology students and Archie to her friends, heard the scream and feared she was once again too late. Running to the front door of the normal looking suburban house Archie raised her foot and with a well practiced Karate kick opened the door, Shanghai style.

She paused momentarily, before another scream of mingled rage and terror spurred her into action. Archie reached for the whip at her side as she took the stairs two at a time, feeling comforted by its presence even as she doubted it would do much good against the Cainstown Closet Killer, not if her guess as to the killer's identity was correct.

The deaths had started with young Rachel Corrigan, the town's most beloved cheerleader. Two more young women had soon joined the swelling ranks of the deceased. Police Chief Patrick Saint Francis Oisin O'Malley was baffled by the evidence found at the scenes. But Professor Obvious read the signs. She knew who was stalking the good citizens of Cainstown and she was determined that there would be no more bodies.

"Hang on kid, I'm coming!" Archimedes homed in on the sounds of struggle, bursting into the bedroom of another would be victim, then stopped in shock at the scene that was revealed.

It was as she had feared, it was indeed 'The Creature that Time Forgot', there could be no doubt. She had seen that pale gelatinous visage many times of the relics she had recovered from the tomb of 'He of the Sabihoonz!' Read the stories of victims sacrificed to the Hungry God, young women fed to appease a Timeless Terror. The one lidless eye, the boiling mass of tentacles, it was exactly what she expected, what she had feared. What she hadn't expected was the source of The Creature's interest.

"Givez me back my Murray creepz!" Dee Morrison roared in anger as she fought to hold onto her precious Teddy Bear.

"Kid, what are you doing? Let go of the freaking bear!" Professor Obvious yelled.

Dee turned her head to peer at the new comer even as she strained to pull her teddy from the grip of the curious Creature.

"Not going to happenz Lady! Helpz me out, throw me the whipz!"

"First let go of the bear, then I will throw you the whip." Archimedes insisted.

"Nuh uh. " Dee turned back to face the creature. "I iz losing patience Mr Grabby. Letz go of the Teddy or iz smackz U right in ur one big eye!!!" Dee dug her heels into the carpet and leaned backward, pulling with all her might but she was losing the fight. The Creature was pulling Murray closer, and thanks to her death grip on the teddy, Dee also.

"Lady! Whipz!!!" Dee yelled.

Archimedes shook her head, "Oh for crying out...hold on kid, I'm coming!" With a practiced flick of her wrist Archimedes flicked her whip out and wrapped it securely around Dee's waist. Then she took hold of one of the bed posts and added her strength to Dee's, hoping it would be enough to swing the contest in their favor. "All together now kid, pull!"
