Description
Can it be? An update?? Yup. Still unfinished, though. But I'm pretty happy with the way it looks so far. Now I just have to find the time to shade and highlight and do the background. In any case, this is Brooke, from Reed Hawker's comic, "Culture Shock" [link] . It's giftart as thanks for having made a donation to help us out on printing the anthology.
Brooke's the sweetest, most innocent elf you'll ever meet. She'd probably get herself into trouble if it wasn't for the fact that her cute factor has the power to melt even the Dark Side. I had difficulty with the pose, but it finally came together. Eventually I will use this image to make a tutorial for Eunice P [link] , and you'll get to see how frankensteinish the original sketch looked. Ahhh, tweaking. How I love thee.

Took me a while to get the eyes just right. I often color in the eyes before anything else because they add such life to the drawing.

Thanks ^_^ I love how the toes came out. Usually when I draw feet they look like muppet feet.

Thank you! I used a reference, and then messed it up, so I had to fiddle with the perspective until I got it right. I'm really happy with the result because 1) I could actually see my mistakes and 2) I actually had the patience to correct them

Isn't that a warm fuzzy feeling, correcting your mistakes and being happy with the results? I have to fight myself so much, cause I'll get one part perfict and the rest will be off, but that one stinking part that I've spent the last hour on is perfict. And then, whichever you erase is screwed because you'll never get either part to look that good again.

Bah, I KNOW. That's why I hesitate to erase things and just leave things wonky. Cuz even if they're wonky, at least they're nice and wonky. Well, it makes sense to me anyway XD Working on a commission right now that will likely drive me insane before I get it right. I also tend to rush things ... but thankfully even though I move from sketch to ink to computer quickly (relatively speaking) I can usually tweak things on the computer and make them look right.

I'm envious of you if you can tweak things on the computer. I'll spend weeks on the sketch until it's just perfict, and then screw it up royally when I ink it, so it gets tossed. And if by some chance it looks half decent inked, I'll screw it up when I paint it, every time with out fail. And on the rare ocassion it does look okay painted, then the computer will corrup the file, or overhate before I save, and on and on and on. I suck at computer painting. Give me a brush anyday. Blah.

I need to tweak things on the comp cuz I don't have a perfect eye ... and likely never will. I need to flip things on the comp before I can see my mistakes.

I tried to emulate Hawk's style a little bit. I made it a little less cartoony too, and I tried to focus on making the anatomy look right instead of just pretty

Thank you! Yeah ... my hands are my best reference, cuz hands are pretty tough to draw out of the blue. Course that means it's really hard when I try and draw guys' hands ... they always turn out so girlie looking!
