Very interesting. Β It looks distinctly mammalian, like a fruitbat or even a flying primate, rather than the traditional reptilian dragon. Β I'd love to see how you imagine a live specimen would look.

Shouldn't it have a keel? I mean it is a flying animal.

deviantetienne In reply to FluffySpiderz [2012-08-26 14:18:23 +0000 UTC]

You mean, like bats ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FluffySpiderz In reply to deviantetienne [2012-08-26 17:26:33 +0000 UTC]

or birds, they have 'em too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

deviantetienne In reply to FluffySpiderz [2012-08-27 04:42:08 +0000 UTC]

I mean bats almost have none...
In my design, there is a small one, hidden behind chest bones. But in the end I didtn't want to put a big keel, just to preserve the shape, making its flight kind of exausting I know...
Then I just bet on its lightness to make it easyer.
And I make them go to mountains or canyons, for them to use the wind to fly more than using strength of its wings.
In the end, weeknesses makes it more interesting

FluffySpiderz In reply to deviantetienne [2012-08-27 22:43:48 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yes, I never thought of it that way, probably because I always imagined dragons as a creature that would swoop down and carry away largish prey like raptors.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

deviantetienne In reply to FluffySpiderz [2012-08-28 11:45:50 +0000 UTC]

I see what you mean.
Well that beast is a runner and climber too. Swooping down yes, but there only chasing any danger by intimidation, to be free then to strt eating in peace.
I'd say don't let your imagination be "locked" in one way of seeing things.
Let it open. Keep on questionning like you did with my Dragon.
But never think things are only one way...
I don't know if I'm clear haha but well there often is reasons for every unlogical things.
Fly birds for example shouldn't be able to get perfectly stable while sucking flowers. The wings movement should make them tremble...
I didn't understand it until I learned they have a liquid in their neck counterbalancing the wing effect. it just cancel the trembling.
Then their head and body is perfectly stable during the flight.
This is some invisible thing and appearing unlogical... but there's a secret hidden inside
Hope your imagination will never stop growing, creating new crazy things.
And hope you'll draw it for us ! (:

Ah yes, I need to work on my dragon concepts. Trust me, I've been putting off for a while now, so they remain a bit stunted. Btw, Are you watching me? I'm not asking that you should if your not, but just wondering

Remarkable porportions, perfect perspective.
What I liked best is that he isn't one of the typical horned, arrow-tailed lizards... this is a brand new dragon breed, and going for it was a brave step. Congratulations, my friend.

What are the spikes on the pelvis for? So a male risks hurting his "stuff" when humping a female?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

deviantetienne In reply to PeteriDish [2012-01-02 22:27:15 +0000 UTC]

hahaha ! no...
Those bones are supporting the caudal wing muscles.
But indeed it can be risky for a brutal male pretender... x)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to deviantetienne [2012-01-03 12:00:47 +0000 UTC]

All right, I get it now. Again on the spiked pelvis... Not that it's not interesting, but Pterosaurs didn't have that, birds didn't and don't have that and the same goes for bats. My point - not a necessary structure for muscle attachement.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

deviantetienne In reply to PeteriDish [2012-01-03 16:44:45 +0000 UTC]

I see what you mean,
but I thought that dragon as a quite heavy creature,
and its wings and queue are feathered, unlike bats or Dinos...
I feel like I needed a powerfull anatomy.
And that creature isn't supposed to come from any evolution,
but out of our hypothetic understanding of DNA.
Trat dragon is supposed to be a human creation.
Then I agree with your point:
Human creations often are useless.
Are Dragons necessary themselves? (;
whatever, Thank you for your interest ! x)

Ok I say you should add horns, make front legs and perhaps extend the spinal crest of spikes to make it more similar to a dragon...cause it looks a bit to much like a bird other then that it's very well depicted.

First Thank you for the fav!!!
Then, let me ask just one question:
What does Drangon really look like?
Or in other ways, for example:
Are birds or dogs or spiders or monkeys orhumans all the same?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

flaringfox In reply to deviantetienne [2009-04-07 15:37:58 +0000 UTC]

Drangon? or dragon?if your wondering what a dragon really looks like I can't say but the common thing is when people think dragon they think giant four legged lizards with wings, and crest of spikes that breath fire...personally I draw dragons..it's my life and I say you should gain critisism only to hear what other people think of your art and gain experience to get better and better at what you do. Cause when I look at your skelleton it looks like a bird or wyvern to me, but it's good to experiment with different things and ways to turn things and make them look new and improved!
It's a good picture though cause no matter what anyone says about it,it is extremly hard to draw skeletons of things that no one has seen before and I prays you for your imagery of it.

as for the second question I'd have to say no, skeletons very deppending on the creature if you look and the skeleton of a dog and compare it to a human the bone placement would be a little similar, but different in many ways.

if you want to draw a dragon skeleton I'd say look at the layout of a komodo dragons bones the the wings of a bird...for the crest and horns it's quite easy to draw them simply but you could also look at lizard horns aswell if you want a good image.

No problem man!
Did you see my pets?
[link] Yes this one looks like a bird and you may be right, it sould have a original Name
Maybe this preview is more "Dragon like" [link] [link]
Lion like [link] Snaky [link] Mousy [link] Another birdy? [link] Or transforming, [link] Starky, [link] Tiger like [link] Or fly [link]
Believe me, no offense, you shouldn't let your imagination restricted but pushed by what people know or think! let it go on!!! I wouldn't even know that beast!
Dragons are what you say they are. And What anybody say too...

You have a unique talent for dragons...I aspire to reach your level but all I can do now is keep practicing, all your dragons are beautiful and I never listen to those who hate my drawing I listen to advice

WAW Thank You so much!!!
well you're 15 years old!
Believe me if you keep on drawing like you do, when you're about 25, I really think your work will easily reach the level you want!!! but only if you really keep on working it!!! and if you really do I wouldn't be surprised you do whatever you want in much less than ten years! Allow yourself time and concentrated work and don't let people tell you how things are or should be...mostly thing that does not even exist...yet)
Well, again, Thank you for such comments!
