What kind of sharpener do you use for your verithins? I was having a hard time with mine.

I just use a regular mechanical sharpener (the small kind that you can buy at the dollar store). The blade's pretty nice, and it works well enough.

very nice for a coloring guide ^.^
if this is mainly for skin tones though i feel that the tones at the shadowed side are a bit too reddish and dark.
adding a slight brownish - umber tint or an orange instead would make the color lots richer :3

I used to color skin with mostly orange/brownish tones, but they got boring, to be honest. xD I feel this way is warmer, and the guide was based off of my Autumn drawing, since that's where this was requested from.

Then what should I use? D: Black is the only thing that gets dark enough for good contrast.

i've just been told to avoid black and white unless you're shadowing/highlighting highly reflective materials in harsh light
such as a polished steel beam.
or unless ur drawing someone who's in deep shadow ._.
*just what i've learned b4*
its rare that you'd need very dark shadows but there should be a very dark brown or so for skin tones

Ohhhh I get it now
I'll give it a try later I dunno how good this coloring style will look with anime style but its worth a try!
This will be great if I ever do portraits. Woo! Thanks
psst crosshatch is coloring in 2 directions diagonally right?
Psst did you use Carmine red and poppy red? Cuz I kind of see my color there...

Yay, I'm glad this guide actually makes sense. xD Ah ya, I can't really help you with anime coloring, since that's a whole different story. But based on your Cygnus NPC drawing, a realistic style seems like it would go fine. Either way, try to make your lines closer together and smoother. And yes, you got cross-hatching correct.
Colors used for this guide: orange, poppy red, crimson red, tuscan red, black, dark green.

yay. It's your amazing coloring lesson from last year ON PAPER!!! well, online. But you get the point. You know, even though I've quit drawing in your style I still color like you taught me.
