I found this tutorial pretty helpful simply because of the fact that you said not to use heavy, stiff strokes when drawing hair. Since hair has fluidity in its' movement, you have to have a fluid hand as well. Thanks for the tutorial! ^_^

So i'm not the only one that saw it...

The only question I have (because this was quite informative) is regarding the "clipping group" bit, is the layer 9 linking to the layer 5? I never use this function because I couldn't figure out how the layers linked together.

The layer on top will always link to the layer below. It doesn't work vice versa. So In this case, Layer 9 is linked to layer 8.
