Description Woody Allen impesonating Buster Keaton originally. This is a photo replication I did by grid w/ black ink and then manipulated it a tiny bit in PS. He is my childhood idol No. 3.

oh wow!!! O_O thats really neat! so you went to an art school?? I'm hoping to be accepted in one...maybe in NY?

I know, I shouldn't waste my time huh? I can't compete with anybody these days because people have ideas and creativity spilling out of them everyday....

Damn DA and not posting my comments! I commented on this piece a couple days ago, and nothing. Oh well, minor detail.

I really like this piece, but admire you more for doing it; I wish I had the time and/or patience to do something within the range of my talents to honor those who inspire me. No matter how hard I've tried, I can't seem to nail an entire song by Tool, and I tried to write a piece, Birth of a Cenobite, to follow with Clive Barker's Hellraiser, but since my computer decided to format itself (or at least we think that's the problem), I no longer have it. There are some copies floating around somewhere, and hopefully I can retrieve them, because I think it is some of my best prose.

So I got off topic. Big deal. I really like this.

What is to stop you? Of course, there are always things like school, work, so on and so forth - I find those tend to get in the way of a lot of things I want to do; I haven't picked up my bass, except for once, since school started about three weeks ago.

I find I am getting more and more frustrated with this world I live in, how it's all "work work work", yet most of it means nothing at the end of the day. I hope that will change, as I just got a co-op placement at a very well known (so the owner told me) photography place. He wants me to go out and take pictures on Monday. Take that McJobs!

shit -- what's the name of that extremely famous artist who does MASSIVE grid canvases... great, now this is going to be cycling around my head for the next 8 hours like a circus bear on a unicycle...

in any case - this the style here is very reminiscent -- you've got a great hand, you should do some more drawings... i've seen this pick, it's one a series that he did: buster keaton, charlie chaplin and groucho marx, no?

It is exactly like those prints you see. What you do is put a grid over whatever image you want to do this effect to and then put a matching grid on a blank canvas. (you can choose the size of your squares when you put the grid over your original print) You have two options then - you can simply transfer by drawing each square in the grid to your new canvas - and in effect "enlarge" the print to whatever size grid you make on the new canvas. OR - you can do what I've done - which is this: observe the square in the grid on the original piece. Choose a shade to represent it on the new grid. If there are bits of black and white in the square on the original piece - pick the appropriate shade of grey, white or black you think fits and use it on the square on the new grid. If its mostly white - make the square on the new grid completey white. If its halfway black and white - then choose grey for the new grid square, etc. By the time you're done - you've broken down the image to shades of color and you get the blur effect. What's most cool is that the further away you are from it - it defines itself more. Its very cool. I plan to do it again on an image I create myself. Now I could have chosen blue or orange or any coloir instead of black and white - and then said white, light blue, dark blue - etc. If your original image is colored - then its tougher to pick one color to represent your square on the new canvas - but you could do it. Like say - this square has more yellow than anything so I'm making the new grid square solid yellow. Blah blah....it sounds more complicated than it is. By sharpening it some in PS - it really defined the squares even more.

Anyway - thank you so much for the favorite and the criticism. You're right - I am sloppy on frames and presentations. I need to learn that. Hell - I just started to crop!

This is gorgeous

Nice to see some different unique stuff on devart as opposed to the same types of work - especially something that you did by hand. I'm not sure of what you did to get this effect though? You really should explain it better in the description! I get the feeling it would make it more impressive. It's like a mosaic...only different

It reminds me of those prints you see in art stores where from far away, you can see the whole image, but up close...you see each square is made of a tiny image.

You could crop this better - theres a thin line on the right. And the image is tilted SLIGHTLY to the left...so that makes it a LITTLE sloppy in presentation (probably not noticeable, but with the grid, the tilting really stands out) - but the actual piece is phenomenal. I think a professional black border would really make this smoke...

I'm still putting it as a +fave as is though, and I don't even worship Woody Allen. :-P

Great work!

I've always loved Woody Allen. He's so damn funny!!

Have you ever read his books? If not, then I _very strongly_ suggest you read them.

Look in Amazon for 'em.. *looks 'em up*
Here they are..
Without Feathers: [link] [link]
Getting Even: [link] src="https://images.deviantart.com/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" align="middle" alt="=p (Razz)" title="=p (Razz)" border="0" /> d_sim_books_3/104-9118726-1999908?v=glance&s=books
and.. Side Effects: [link] src="https://images.deviantart.com/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" align="middle" alt="=p (Razz)" title="=p (Razz)" border="0" /> d_sbs_b_2/104-9118726-1999908?v=glance&s=books

(There's also a 3-in-1 book with all those three books in the same book, in case you were going to buy all three, [link] )

(Also there's this CD with him and his hilarious standup comedy.. [link] src="https://images.deviantart.com/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" align="middle" alt="=p (Razz)" title="=p (Razz)" border="0" /> d_ecs_m_b_a/104-9118726-1999908?v=glance&s=books&st=* )

Ok, I know I just sounded like some kind of mad book seller. I'm sorry, but I got all those three books myself. I've read them several times and I laugh so bad every time I go through 'em. I love 'em.
