Maybe you've just discovered one of those neat optical illusions where people see what they're inclined to see. Those who prefer tickling see laughter, those who prefer pain see screaming, and those like me see a spot for a ballgag~
... But no, I don't think the expression confusion is your fault. A wide mouth like that can make a lot of different sounds and your gallery contains a lot of situations.Β

I think you're onto something, and that's all there is to it.Β The cartoonΒ mouth tends to make only so many shapes, especially when yelling, so it's not easy to tell exactly how she should sound.Β That said, I do need to start putting more gags around.Β It can be fun sometimes...Β

Great expression, I did not have doubts about she was screaming. Toes and soles roasting are just awesome and your artwork is more than fantastic, love this image beyond human measures!

You know, when I saw the thumbnail of this pic I too thought she was laughing. It's because her mouth is bent in such a way that the "corners" are upwards. More often than not thatΒ style tends to make it look like the character is smiling/laughing.
However, after clicking and viewing the actual pic, it's clear she is screaming (or is opening her mouth inΒ pain since we have no sound effects or speech bubbles to actually show us if she is making a sound).Β I believe it's because of those two small lines that are touching the "corners" of her mouth (the cheeks) and are pointed upwards. If they were pointed downwards or to the side I think it would have probably looked closer to a smile. Just goes to show how little details can significantly change the pic.
Overall, great job. Poor girl.

It did seem a slight confusion for a few that saw it. But when I see the flame, it was obvious that it didn't look like she's laughing. Interesting expression if you ask me. And nice touch on having the piece of flame being in between the toes.

From a good distant look, it almost seem like she's happy, and seeing that it's fire that's burning her...if there's a smile on her face, it might have looked that the fire is giving an unexpected effect like instead of inflicting pain, it give a effect of causing laughter.

I can get used to flames being a consistent theme with foot abuse XP

I wanted the fire to seem pretty alive, as if it either has a mind of its own or is being directed by some force.Β If it seems to have a personal touch somehow then I think it adds to the overall "devilish" theme of the picture.Β Nevertheless, I'm glad you're enjoying it.Β

Ooh, just look at the tongue of the flame lick up the full length of her left sole and how it has deviously worked itself in between the toes of her right, the sensation of this firey assault upon her soles clearly visible on her face. Just what sin did the dear commit to be dealt such a punishment?
I must say I'm becoming quite fond of this natural law of yours where as Sir-Bombers aptly stated, feet are fireproof but not pain-proof. Immune to the actual damage flame poses but still quite vulnerable to the pain it can dish out sounds like a truly winning combination to me.

Mmmmmhmm.Β I took pains to craft some particularly wicked fire for this one.Β Had I to guess, I'd suspect she committed the heinous crime of being one of my characters.Β You know what kind of penalty that carries.Β
But, yeah, I guess the whole "cartoon physics" or whatever does work out well for kinky stuff.Β It lets me really push characters into stuff so over the top that it's instantly obvious just how wild a time they're having.
