For the controversial thought of the day; you know how the internet constantly bitches about wanting only the early wacky Daffy and that's all ? Well, it is not the case for me at all as I mostly draw the late 40's-50's adult Daffy.
See, I do not miss the in-your-face wacky Daffy because :
a) I have ALL of his cartoons so I can put one on whenever I wanna watch them. Still love'em actually...
b) His fanbase (mostly Clampett purists) is so fucking obnoxious that they sour EVERY SOLITARY forum/fan group about Looney Tunes. They could not even shut the fuck up in the comments of an article informing us about Chuck Jones' passing...
c) It ended up a facet of the whole Duck's character. You see, the young bouncing Daffy spawned so many imitators in the 40s that he'd be lost in the mix if he stayed JUST that way. In fact, Woody Woodpecker, Screwy Squirrel and YoYo the Dodo aped that act and topped it. And then the 50's came and with them, Daffy was fully rounded, versatile and a unique character. The whole idea of making him a feathered Don Quijote, a treacherous Tartuffe, WB's Silver Medal and best of all the Perfect Miscast was a strike of genius AND I CAN'T THANK Friz Freleng, Jack Miller, Mike Maltese, Robert McKimson and Chuck Jones ENOUGH for having evolved Daffy to his 50's adult self. He also managed to make an abortion joke hilarious.
