I know, I'm kinda late with this one. Still, the episode is worth reminding of. Hearth's Warming Tail was our mandatory "Scrooge episode" that every self-respecting TV show requires. To me it's some sort of Show's rite of passage and they did an excellent job keeping it entirely in pony lore. Starlight in the role of Snowfall Frost just grabbed me by the heart.Lately I didn't have a chance to paint any winter scenery, so this was as good an excuse as any. Playing around with lights and shadows is more satisfying when the snow is involved.

I remember seeing your works all over Deviantart, but I never realized they were all made by the same person until, oh, a couple minutes ago. Imagine my surprise when I realized all those gorgeous, gorgeous landscapes and paintings were all made by the same artist!

Thank you! Sadly it didn't get as much attention as I was hoping for. Apparently something I'm actually proud of won't be as popular as something I think I should be improving. I can never tell what people will enjoy more. Oh well... I can still continue doing what I like. I'm just sad for this picture

I agree with JAEneth , while the backgrounds are very stunning in your pieces, the anatomy of the pony seems to be off in this one.
Especially the big head, and noodle like front hooves.

It's an interesting fusion, Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer β perhaps because they come from similar origins of not really being good at the whole "friend thing"? Or am I just reading way too much into it?

Whatever the case, you did a fantastic job showing the mare's feeling of isolation and faint longing as the other ponies celebrate so brightly and so closely; it seems that a part of her wishes she could join them, but she doesn't think she fits in. Lovely work on the celebrants enjoying the gorgeous, if frosty, evening. The quaint village architecture looks fantastic with plenty of flourish and detail (personality I guess). The misty cold contrasted with the warmth from the windows gives a peaceful feeling all around. The dog checking out the tree is cute, and good thing the lights aren't electric (if you know what I mean).

Thanks! As always is nice to hear from you. Though I read some concerns about the way I'm drawing ponies. It's not the first time people pointed this out and I'm starting to worry about it. Shall I maybe go with my own, more realistic style of ponies? Or maybe its just one of those things easier to notice when the background is so detailed? What do you think about it?

I don't have any issues with the way you draw the characters, as they look great to me. Sure, I enjoy many styles, but this captures the feeling of the show while adding some better form and depth. The head thing that someone mentioned seemed like foreshortening for effect β but I'm not really an art critic, never mind an artist, so you're better off giving the other replies more credence. To me thought, it seem to bring her feelings to the forefront and I assumed it was intentional β but I can still see where others are coming from.

Also, like you said, maybe the level of detail on her compared to the ponies in the background (through the frosty mist) is too much of a contrast? With the finishing work on Starlight and the background they may seem a little flat.

Heh.. just people really got me worried and I really needed some more words on the matter.
I'm aware everybody's opinion here carries the equal weight (unless someone's rude, which has to happen yet). There's no reason for some quasi-professional art critic here, as every consumer (viewer in this case) is the perfect critic of ones work, the difference is how well one can express their thoughts on the matter... and you are surprisingly good at this.

Starlight's head. I hate it. It's the first thing I saw in the picture and I was ready to move along, until I noticed that the rest of the picture is actually pretty marvellous... and then I saw Starlight's head again! It just feels too big and the hat doesn't help. Also, her expression, I am genuinly confused, what is she feeling? Is it supposed to be a thoughful gaze? The title seems to suggest stubborness, coldness, bitterness anything else than calm contemplation of a random point off screen!

It depends on the person, I figured that him being this good would mean that he is used to heavily criticising himself, so a single comment yelling about the head being too big in a sea of praise would have been both funny and constructive. I was wrong, so I tried to make damage control, dunno if it worked. But hey, it's the internet, you ve got to expect rude comments sooner or later.
