Welcome to our first Interview article!
This particular devInterview was done by EternalFallacy The Interview
What came to my mind, when I had thought about the Community, was to interview someone who is very active within the deviantART site. But suddenly I thought, that it would be better to interview someone who CREATES a community themselves. This is a club, obviously. For the first interview, I decided on SongofthePoets , which is a pretty new, but very interesting project.
Let's listen to Godzilla725 , who is the new owner of the club.
Q: As a club, here on deviantART, your goal is to unite some part of the community. Artists of what medium are you trying to unite?
A: We are trying to unite poets and lyricists, to their fans and supporters.
Q: What do you aim to except for making the Lit community more united?
A: We aim to provide contests for our members and places for them to be exposed and recognized as good writers. So not only do we run our own contest we have staff devoted to running that. We work on Twitter with Poem of the Day and song of the Week. And we are constantly updating and adding more content and features for aspiring writers to get recognized through.
Q: What do you think about deviantART's Lit community and presented Literature level?
A: I believe that deviantART has a great lit community, but it is in desperate need of expansion. The growth of the lit community is so much smaller than that of other mediums. People don’t want to read long drawn out prose, or they don’t even want to read short poetry. A lot of the writing is cliché, more deviant need to be original. We have some members that are cliché but others are very original. I would say that deviantART’s literature level is mediocre for the most part but in some cases it is very good.
Q: How can you improve Lit community here on dA, what, in your opinion, should deviants do to make it united, representing higher level and to make it more recognized?
A: I would say cleaning up the level of writing. Fellow deviants and writers should help out each other and help each other with their writing. If a deviant is in need of editing, edit it. If a deviant is in need of ideas help, help the deviant. If we united as a community, if all deviants united the writing caliber, depth, emotion and beauty would be so much more. It would be worth reading a long story.
Q: Who is the founder of the group?
A: xHigherxNowx founded the group and ran it for a little while got it started, but it was a little too much work for her, so I (Godzilla725 ) took over. I have been working on publicizing the group more and more and have made a lot of changes since I took over.
Q: Who can join the club?
A: Anyone with the desire to write poetry/lyrics or just overall support the writers. We have recently started our supporters system a branch off of our members system.
Q: What does the Staff do?
A: Well we have several staff at SotP; Owner, Co-Owner, Submissions Manager, Contest Manager, and Members Manager. Here is the breakdown of what everyone does and who holds that title.
Owner: Godzilla725
Manages contests we run, sends out journals and news articles.
Co-Owner: 3wyl
Is in charge when owner is not present.
Submissions Manager: yourpersonaljesus
Submits all deviations to our gallery in a neat professional fashion.
Contest Manager: xHigherxNowx
Person in charge of looking for poetry/lyric contests. Also updates, and refreshes contests journal. Not in charge of contests we run.
Members Manager: SilentAndSullen
Adds members to our growing members list and categorizes them (Supporter, Poet or Lyricist)
We have this info posted in our Members/Admins journal and deviant ID just in case anyone from the club has specific questions.
Q: Have you reached any of your goals yet?
A: We have reached some goals, like for instance we have reached over 1400+ page views in just over a month. So we have reached our publicity/popularity goal. We have had some recognition, but most of that has come from chirping in someone’s ear and twisting their arm until they did it for us. When PhotographyByChilb donated a subscription to us it was a Godsend, our page views and more importantly member count, deviation views sky rocketed. And personally looking at some of our submissions they got more faves as well.
Q: What do you think of undertakings such as clubs?
A: I think it is a big commitment; it takes a lot of time energy and devotion. If you are a lazy person running a club is going to be nearly impossible for you. If you are hectically busy, you will have no time for the club. And if you are just generally lazy you won’t get up and update anything. I am a busy guy no doubt about it and I have my lazy side but I make time in my schedule between things or at night before bed, or after work to get things done.
Q: Are you looking forward the brand-new dA's system for groups, which will make moderating and using them easier?
A: I am on the fence with that one, although it will be great for the group, I still have unanswered questions about it. Like will it delete all my deviations that I have posted? Will I still need a subscription or is it void? How many people can run it? Can I register other groups or is this it? There is plenty more questions but I don’t want to have a page full of questions on here. Maybe a little bit after it has been released or when my sub runs out I will do it, but right now I am just not feeling it.
Q: Would you like to add anything?
A: SongofthePoets is welcome to poets/lyricists of all levels…and I haven’t told anyone yet but I have been working on adding visual poetry to our list of styles. We have great contests for poets of all sorts to compete in, and we always have amazing prizes with it. Not a poet, our poets need support too…after all that is our mission statement, to help poets/lyricists get their name recognized and have their work critiqued, faved, recognized, and loved.
SongofthePoets has one more thing to say. Get your rhyme on!
Thank you so much for the interview, Godzilla725 . We hope that your club will be running great!
