Description Ok really inventive title here

This was just a test of nParticles in Maya 2010
I'm really happy with the outcome, although it still doesn't quite look like real water

Any feedback is much appreciated

the animation is 50 frames and took just over 3 hours to render

This is really good! I'm surprised it only took three hours though. It kinda looks similar to how Pixar animation started out. Good work! The lighting on the table is lovely, and the shadow on the rest of the room is nic. And don't worry about the quality of the water, from what I've heard, water is really hard to animate anyway and I think it came out looking really good anyway. Its the first thing I've seen like this here i think! ^_^ Congrats on this amazing work, ^_^

The reason why I didn't think it looked exactly like water was because when it hits the table starts falling you made the water become separate droplets. Even when hitting a table, I don't think water separates that much, most of it would stay together in one mass. You should lessen the amount of droplets and keep one large mass of water.

Gosh, that's hard to explain and you probably don't understand what I'm saying at all XP

Fantastic job though! It looks incredibly realistic!

this is pretty good, I like how the water laps over the side as it falls really realistic. The only thing I'd have to say is that this looks more like marble than water, when it hits the table they bounce and spread out. I really like it! Wish I could do it but I'm starting with smaller fish lol.

i really like this but you know what it seems to remind me of? thoes little animations at the bowling ally that apear when you get a strike. oh and the water looks realy good and realistic (but i do see what you mean on how it seems a little off on the motion and what not).

I really like this idea, but I just don't like how the glass moves. It should be a bit faster since it splatters many fluids of water. it's a good thing you've done, though

This is great, but I think the cup needs to bounce as it hits the table. It's rare that any cup falls over and just stays perfectly still.

MedriFogmatio [2010-03-24 18:51:11 +0000 UTC]

The animation is nice, it shows that you have great promise. But Water is INCREDIBLY hard to animate, I'm sure you've found out.

I've learned how to do a bit of Maya so far, so I know how hard you worked to get this. While the glass is falling, it looks great, but I don't see water coming out of the glass, I see nothing but liquid beads of Glass coming out of it.

Not Water.

And that's the hardest part of this all to say, Water is not falling out of that glass, it's not loose, it's not chaotic when coming out, it's more like a syrup coming out.

The rest of it is lovely.

danikruse [2010-03-24 18:31:53 +0000 UTC]

You should create a shape inside the cup and put another glass texture on it, but do not make the transparency too low, but not to high. Just enough to make it look like there is something in the cup. I also think you should add more animation to the cup, like maybe make it wobble right before it falls, and then when it does fall, have the glass roll. (if you knock a cup over, it'll usually roll to the left or right, but in a circular motion)

The water also looks to thick.
But keep trying! I know you'll get it!

I LOVE your artwork its amazing
the only thing i could say (and I don't know anything about 3D artwork) is that when the glass falls, the water doesn't look like water, exept for the few drops that splatter.
but other than that your awesome

I love the movement, so realistic about the table going up. The glass seems a little too static. About the water which don't look like water I love it, for me it looks as glass beads.
Very impressive work

It almost looks like a really slick gelatin thats somewhat solid but not completely....
It looks fantastic though, hmm my suggestion would be to amp up the particles and decrease their size make it a little finer (if thats understandable)
If maya has a splash feature like blender or Flowline
[link]
There is an example, I used to play with blenders fluid dynamics system pretty cool stuff but it will eat a process like its a cracker
