Ok really inventive title here
This was just a test of nParticles in Maya 2010
I'm really happy with the outcome, although it still doesn't quite look like real water
Any feedback is much appreciated
the animation is 50 frames and took just over 3 hours to render

Where to start...
The animation itself is very good. You know right away what the focus is, the panning of the camera aids in that, and the rendering of glass and water is very good.
The only issue is the fluid physics, that is how you said the water deosn't appear to be realistic. This is because water doesn't bead up like you showed upon spilling, it actually pours out as a flat, uniform, 2-3 millimeter thick layer. There would be some splashing, of course, but water doesn't begin to look like how you rendered it falling off the table until it's flowing very fast, which it doesn't do out of spilling. The way the water comes from the top of the cup as it falls is also fairly accurate, although water would begin spilling a little as the cup fell over, if the glass is filled to the top (as it appears to be).
The transparency of the water is very good, and the first few frames of it pouring out of the cup are fairly accurate. The accuracy seems to disappear as soon as the edge of the table comes into view, when the water goes from fairly realistic (though chunky and a bit globular) effects to the Glass-Marbles we see pouring over the table.
You do have the transparency of water just about right, as well as it's refractive and reflective properties. That's fairly hard to do, actually, as it's a very specific kind of reflectivity that a fluid has. I applaud you for it. :3

i admit the particles don't look very realistic, i was a little limited to the numbrer of particles i could use to create the effect.
i think next time i'll have a look at smaller particles to see if i can make it look a little more realistic

I really like this, and congrats at making something this nice. I haven't really looked at 3D animated art much, but I felt I should write a critique on this, I hope it works for you.
The things that are attractive to me in this image range from the background and the sky outside to the shadows and reflections on the glass table as the cup tilts. The water looks fairly good too, I like the splash of the droplets.
What bugs me most though is how the glass moves. You have it just falling cleanly on it's side, whereas normally when a cup of any kind is knocked over, it has more momentum and will usually slide or move a bit, and then roll when it lands on it's side.
As for the water, while it looks good, I must agree that it doesn't look completely real. I would imagine that a real glass of water tipping over would result in a little more chaos as the water is thrown out.
Just my two cents, though. I think you did a great job overall, I would even be able to create the glass and have it look semi-normal. I look forward to more!

I'm not good at animation, but I, weirdly, love to check out waterfalls, lakes and, yeah, falling water.
Your water looks like gel, glass or heavy bubbles, which are cool, but not water.
Water sticks to itself, thats all I'll say.

the water looks fairly decent while it's still inside the glass, but it sort of turns into a bunch of little gummi pebbles or rocks when they separate. If they could just remain connected together I think you might be able to make it look a little more realistic. Keep up the good work though.

The only gripe I have with it is that the glass seems to be empty at the start. Yes, I know it's water and it's clear, but there should still be some kind of water marking level?
