Description Wow Its my first time doing a finished artwork with a female character xD took about 12-13 hours, although I do work quite slowly with the digital format.

She's meant to be based on the vindicare assassins in WH40k, but I think she's got an identity crisis, I realized after finishing assassins don't belong to the inquisition..silly me. (Although I suppose the inquisition does have the authority to requisition them or have one as part of an inquisitor's retinue.)

Any feedback is welcomed !

She's not hidden.
She's wholly exposed.
Restricted/singular egress.

Doesn't matter. In-game assassins gain infiltrate and are not revealed until they act.
On top of that they have access to arcane tech and xeno tech in the fluff.
So, by 40k standards, everything is fine in the piece.

There are holes, a sniper is not supposed to set up right on a window, instead they should be further back in the room, concealing their form and muzzle flash from outside view.

That's not a hole. If the room is a specific shape or size you do what you must or find a new position.
We're not talking hypothetical scenarios or applying real world tactics to a painting without knowing the entire "situation" of the character.

Yes, it's always important for snipers to be concealed and hidden. But in the 40k universe brutality
and a reliance on arcane technology also exists.

If the character has any holy relics she already gets an invulnerable save.
Or a teleport beacon. Shoot and go.
Or xeno tech.

Just take the art and situation for what it is without applying numerous arbitrary levels of standards.

You can't stop people from critiquing, and you shouldn't. An artist shouldn't rest on excuses for everything, and it never hurts to be more knowledgeable.

Woah woah woah Let's all calm down here.

I definitely do agree with the opinion that this isn't the most realistic portral of a sniper, being in a sci fi setting or not, however I could make an argument that having it closer to the window makes the lighting more dynamic and thus makes for better looking art, in addition to the (minor) reason of sci-fi hax technology making it plausible or whatever.

Also I tried to not make her too sexualized, but still feminine, as the angle we are viewing at doesn't expose a lot about the gender. Giving her combat fatigues and boots might just make her look androgynous. In my opinion her pose is not realistic (but emphasizes on her superhuman/augmented ability, in terms of using her foot to manipulate the console etc) but certainly not as exaggerated as some of superheroine I see in comic books in terms of anatomy.

But you're not critiquing, you're creating a scenario that isn't depicted in the image to support an argument that somehow the artist is  "incorrect" in depicting a sniper.
Can you show me the rules that state all sniper imagery must conform to real world tactics and execution?
Why is it the artist is not allowed to give us their vision?
Do we need to run your entire gallery through a real world lens too?
Are you a subscriber to the sham we know as the eschergirls blog?

Let's not even take into account the art's setting. If the character is in a hive city, there may not be any optimal shooting locations. It is a 40k character after all, so you could critique the fluff aspect.

The artist didn't create a conventional real world sniper, so now all of a sudden they lack knowledge and should study sniping? That's not a critique that's an attack.

If we're going to use your apparent approach we have to stop liking Spider-Man, the X-Men, 90% of all comic characters and then do the same to all video game characters because they all do things that cannot be done in ways that are not possible. It'll never end.
You might as well dial up Adria Smith and call him out on his non-realistic pieces as well. www.adriansmith.co.uk/

In short:
The artist created a 40k Inquisition assassin. It looks good. It fits the fluff.
The piece was never presented as a realistic work and should not be held to realistic standards.

Such a long reply just because you misunderstand critique. We simply said that the snipers position could be done better, this is a critique, not some rule that the artist must precisely follow, nor does it make this art bad. It simply makes the artist aware of information they may now take into consideration.
You don't need to get defensive for the artist, he can read our critique and take it as he wishes.

Though, if you think eschergirls (and by extension, plausible anatomy) is a "sham" I guess you really dislike critique in general. You might not like it, but it's a common and necessary part of being an artist.

The sniper's position is fine. It's sci-fi. That's all I am saying.
Eschergirls blog is not about critique, it's a vehicle for pathetic people to showcase their stupidity.

Please, have a good weekend if you're in an area that's not getting rain.

Nice. I need to get back into adding atmosphere and environments to my paintings really badly. At least of some kind so the are more interesting.
