Description October contest, colored with the closest colored pencil approximation to the Terra color set (www.colourlovers.com/palette/2… ) I could get it to. If people want I can include the colors combined to get the general effect of each too.

I liked Battle Magic and the setting in Gyongxe for the very same thing that seems to have bothered so many other people: the many gods and creatures of Gyongxe. They dance in paintings, delight in catching the oblivious humans off guard, and even land a kiss on a main character at one point. What's not to like?

This happens to be from a scene where Evvy turns from inspecting a tunnel painting of an odd eagle-headed, horse-bodied and spindle-legged fiction to find that it's not so fictional after all...

I've since found this is not entirely accurate, because outside of that scene they were described as cat-bodied. Not being a cat-owner I have very little idea of what that means, so I couldn't include it. Every cat I've dealt with seems to be made of imperious annoyance obscured by abundant fur.

I guess great minds think a like since we all ended up picking the same color scheme.

Nice use of colored pencils. I like how you added hints of green within the fur.

I figured it could count for shadow on a lighter color from that palette. In the scene itself the light source was supposed to be bioluminscent mosses, so without the palette the illumined places should have been that color, and the shadow some warmer color.

Nice to see a scene from Battle Magic! I also thought all the gods and creatures were a fun addition, so I'm not sure why many people complained about that.
And I have to say, you chose a perfect scene for this color set.

I don't think it was the presence of the gods and creatures so much as how it disrupted their expectations for the plot, which is unfortunate. Perhaps it moved the Circle books closer to the Tortall books, where the existence of divinities is without question and no longer open to the reader's imagination. But I'm not going to take out plot discrepancies on such a fascinating setting. Hell, it even inspired me to read up on Tibet culture, history, art and food since it was so different from my corner of the American midwest.

And while I can see why one would be uncomfortable around the cave snakes or the peak spiders (Diban Kangmo is lousy at PR), who wouldn't want to meet deep runners, ice lions, the giant stone tigers, and leopards? It's life at it's most creative.
