Given time worship would follow, that young man would know ecstasy like he could never imagine. The coach  had the knowledge that some day in the future his trainee would dwarf him

Brian began his first day pumping iron and was noticeably distracted.  His coach, his mentor, his dad, Steve could see Brian constantly looking at the photos on the walls and searching the gym for someone or something.  He did not stare so much at the massive muscle monsters in wonder since his dad was one and he was accustomed to seeing his dad and his dad's trading partners with their huge bulging muscles. 

His father wisely realized Brian focused more on anyone who was smaller or at lease not as sole as his dad or the other muscle heads.

Steve quickly pulled out his smart phone and scrolled for a photo.  He actually did not like keeping the picture as Steve was perhaps the quintessential muscle freak driven for years by feelings of inferiority going back to when he was Brian's age. 

Steve summoned his serious dad voice and said: "Here son.  Today you begin your journey just like I did.  Only I started a few yeas later as weight training, if you can believe it, was considered by many not to be good for you  As you can see, I was not in good shape".

Brian's eyes widened as the image of the young boy from decades ago was scrawnier then he was.  And to make matters worse he wore thick "coke bottle" glasses only making the nerdy image even more pathetic.

Steve: "There is an old saying...Rome wasn't built in a day. Not that I am saying I am anything to be compared to the best in the world, mind you, but I just want to impress upon you that anything worth really having.  Anything that really makes you proud or anything that turns heads takes work and dedications and time."

Brian, had herd that bodybuilding was in large part predetermined by good genetics, but he simply could never believe he could ever become like his father.  Certainly dad was born with muscles he always thought.

He noticed his dad looked around and quickly close his phone and place it back in his gym trunk pockets as he was noticeable embarrassed by the photo.

Then Steve caught himself and though for a moment.  Maybe his message was not entirely the best.  And Steve realized that his reaction. his embarrassment was not setting a good example for his son.

Steve: "Son.  But also remember Rome was not the best and Rome no longer even exists....what is important is that you do what you want and no matter what....... know I will be proud of you no matter what you look like"

Brian smiled and looking at his Father's massive chest...the one he only a month ago rested his head on while on the couch watching "The Avengers" with his greatest hero, considered the message and nodded and said: "Ok Dad...But I would definitely like to turn out like you!"
