I think what I like here is how pale the buff guy is. It adds a certain realism. Like he rarely takes his shirt off but when he does men and women are begging to bed him or learn his secrets . I really like how pale he is, there's a certain sexiness in minor flaws like that. it helps him feel more real,
Also I like the thights, the grass around him is untouched even as he's got giant canteloupe calves. It reminds me of a pinup artist i know who draws massively unrealistic women, but uses his background in medical school to design plausible anatomy for his crazy, unrealistic women.
So I buy your major muscle men as plausible, if nothing else.

In the original photo, the pale guy looked geekier than the other guy who looked more typically jock-like (although clearly both guys are jocks). A theme for me is the geek one upping the jock and turning the tables on the jock's turf. I like that you notice the calves and thighs. Making sure these guys are big and bilgy all over is definitely a big thing for me!
