Description
Y'all remember this one by =fyuvix ?Well if you do, great! If you don't let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Better yet, let the man who made the original himself sum up:
"Just a little meme for character balance, with some tips and hints. You can use this for a group of characters, or just a few single characters. Anyway, hope y'all find the information helpful!
Okay for the record, this is -not- a definitive chart on how to make a character. [. . .] This is simply to see if a cast of 7 or less characters is well balanced according to some little thing I made up. Also, make sure to read ALL the notes as it mentions that a good cast does NOT consist of ALL well-balanced characters, but a balance of balanced and unbalanced. It is really only important that your main character is balanced. Yes, there are exceptions, this is a general meme for fun."
What you see above you is his version of the meme, but adapted into an excel file.
Click on the Download button for a copy.
Notes about the file:
- You only need to enter the character names into the first row. They automatically file out the rest.
- To select a different number of characters, use the sheets on the bottom of the page. There is currently an option for 5, 6 and 7 number of characters.
- To duplicate the sheet, do not "Select All" then copy it. The spaces are get thrown off. Instead, right mouse click the sheet and select "Move or Copy."
- To make an excel graph into a image; open MS Paint, select the graph on excel, copy, go to MS Paint and paste. MS Paint works well that way.
That should be about it. Ask me if you have any questions. Have fun!
EDIT Apparently the file was not uploaded properly. I believe it has been fixed now. Also, tell me if you've filled the chart out. I'm curious to see them in use.

Its perfect! With this anyone can outline a character without having to worry about it turning out as a "Mary-Sue" or an "Angsty-Edge-Lord"! Would recommend to anyone!

The only problem I have with this sheet is, if you take one thing on the left, odds are you can't take one thing on the right. This seems balanced (can't have attractive and ugly for example), but it ends up you can't lower your score if you have lot's on one side over the other. For example, a typical lovable rogue with a heart of gold type character would probably have Strong, Attractive, arguably kind, leader, brave, some of them are reliable, confident, street smart, charisma, talented, prolific...
For example, Han Solo.
In which case you have a character which is considered 'Too Strong'.
it's good fun, but its like a Mary Sue Litmus Test. It's not a 100% thing.

There are few things I've noted
Like there are a lot more negative traits that aren't on this chart that well. The character may have all the positive traits, or many of them. But not the negative ones
Like arrogance, Lustfullness (a character can be honourable, have a strict code that they follow but still tend to sleep around)

Yes, this is just a copy of the original. Like you, I also felt as though this chart was incomplete, so I remade this into another version that includes more traits that better balances the positive and negative aspects of the chart.
I just never posted it.

Hi, I have a small problem. I try to get the file to work but for some reason it's a .rar file and so doesn't load properly in Excel. I have Office 2007 and I'm running Opera on a Vista - do you know what's wrong?
π: 0 β©: 1
DHos In reply to HazelHolly [2011-11-30 02:38:30 +0000 UTC]
A .rar file is a compressed file format. It was the only way I could upload it to DA for some reason. Anyways, use winrar to extract the file and it is in an excel format you should be able to use.

Just a suggestion, but I think you should include a version of the sheet in the older .xls format, and not just the newer .xslx format (I say that because I don't have Office 2007 or 2010, at least not yet).

Ah, this is pretty cool. Thanks, though I never realized how...weird my character is. Half the answers are iffy for them. xD Like, she's not physically strong, -she's flexible, limber, and fast- but probably wouldn't win hand to hand combat. She can be mature at times, but is mostly immature. Yesh, talk about re-vamping my characters. Anyway, thanks again for this.

Thats why I made a much bigger and more thorough version when I used it on my own characters. But this was just a copy of the existing one here on DA.
