Description
This is just a small something I made with my new tablet (YAY! I FINALLY HAVE ONE!!!!!).I never quite understood where the sword in the stone thing came in the Arthurian legend (is it before or after the lady of the lake?! If it's before, then how/why does the sword end up in the lake? If it's after, than how/why does it end up in a rock?!), and watching the BBC Merlin series, I'm even more confused.
I don't think they'll ever have to do the pulling-the-sword-from-the-stone thing, but if they do, then in my head, it would go like this.

Actually.....
In the legends, there was a sword in a stone, and whoever could pull it out was the true king. Arthur pulls it out without realizing what he's done until later and is crowned king while still very young. Later on the sword breaks in battle, and Merlin takes Arthur to the Lady of the Lake who gives him the sword Excalibur.
So in the legends, the sword in the stone and the sword from the lake are two different weapons.

The Sword in the Stone is called Caliburn and was his father's. When it was destroyed they threw the shards into the lake

BBC Merlin doesn't follow the traditional King Arthur plot. But that's why it's a legend- you can tell it any way you want.

I know that, I've watched all three seasons. I was explaining about the legends specifically.
"I never quite understood where the sword in the stone thing came in the Arthurian legend (is it before or after the lady of the lake?! If it's before, then how/why does the sword end up in the lake? If it's after, than how/why does it end up in a rock?!)"
So see, the question was referring to the Legends, thus I explained it. I started to explain how they did it in the series too, but did not know if she'd had a chance to watch it yet and didn't want to give it away if not.

Actually they are going to do it, before the end of this season....I won't say more because I don't know more, but the promo pics are out of the sword in the stone now. Just wish I could relocate the dang thing.

In Arthurian legend, Arthur has two swords: first, the sword in the stone, which was pulled by him from the rock and made him king of England, but after the sword was broken, he went to the lady of the lake and she gave him new sword - Excalibur.

Well, I've heard there were just two different legends about Excalibur, but first of all before Arthur got it (no matter if it was from Lady of the Lake or if it was from the stone), Excalibur had been originally destinated for good and justiful king. Merlin gave it to Uther Pendragon, but later Uther became less justiful because of his romances, so Merlin took the sword from him and pulled it into the stone/threw it into water.

aaaaah so that explains it. I always asumed that Excalibur was the sword from the stone and it got all confused.
So I guess the show won't do the sword in the stone thing, then... Unless they do it with Excalibur, which won't really make any sense.
