I got a call from my editors in the X-Men office at Marvel about a month ago to do some design work for some new Sentinels. for the last 30 or so years the Sentinels have had the same general design so Marvel wanted to spruce them up for the new Civil War story line going on this Summer. They didn't give me any other guidelines except to make them each look original and bad-ass. There are 5 all together named Warmachine, Crazytrain, Ogre, Shrapnel, and Megaton. Salvador Larroca designed Warmachine and Crazytrain so I was charged with doing the final 3. I tried to make them characteristic with their name and give them the ominous feel I think a Sentinel should have. Inspiration came from all over the place including Gundam, Transformers, Evangelion, Big O, Thundercats, and the 5th Element. I should also mention that these have all already been approved and are currently being drawn by Marvel artists for this Summer's comics. After seeing a bit of fresh blood with the "Sentinel Squad O*N*E" project and "Sentinel" comics this stuff is absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see these badboys in action as well as the other two. I've caught some coverwork glimpses for "X-Men #186" with one on it and I must say, these designs are impessively created. Nice work!

Wow, these are awesome, i love all three i couldnt choose one favourite, and yeah the sentinals could definitly use a change fro mthe old sixties lookin space robot tin cans they always fight. you must be pretty creative you marvel called YOU up

the shrapnel is my favorite, its a great mix of what looks like iron man/heavy arms gundam. thats some good stuff right there.

Incredible designs. Thinking about it now the old designs did need to be upgraded but I'm a fan of the classics. As the saying goes "oldies but goodies". Also the designs reminded me a lot of Armored Core the video game but I like. I haven't read any of the newer X-men's but I'll have to pick up a copy this summer to check these guys in action.

Mmmm, monsterously destructive machines of death. I love them, great new designs but enough inspiration of the old designs so you know they're sentinels and not random mechs. Awesome stuff.

I really love the way you drew these guys! They look massive, tough, etc! Just what a Sentinel is supposed to look like. I think you captured the way these guys are supposed to be amazingly!

Truely creative man too bad you couldn't add some more sleeker designs . Like the current tech of the world were every thing is getting slimmer and smaller with a lot of smooth lines . You know like the"I robot" style and the current trend of cell phones in Japan . But with the American size rules bad ass tech . Anyway what you got here is still kick ass.Great work!

Wicked Designs man the first one's body reminds me of those creatures from Warcraft3 while the arm designs remind me of a cross between Big-O and that one little transformer that could turn his arms into jack hammers (now as i read your discription yeah now i see where the big o and transformers come into play

I need to ask this question which i hope i get an answer 2, what did u think of the sentinel design that capcom used for their marvel fighting games, cos i absolutely loved the fact that they looked like tru machines rather than giant humans with armour, but thay still looked enuff like sentinels for them to hold the name. the fact that they had all sorts of hidden away weapons as well really appealed to me, was this an influence wen u were designing these sentinels which look absolutely great btw u can really see the differences in their bulid types, i especially luv the fact that u created 2 heavyweight sentinel units but they're both different in the looks and feel. But above all i really like the way u made them look like actual machines. TH qustion i asked at the beginning still stands but i think this is a top effort dude. This is gonna rock every marvel fans world. superb job.

Shrapnel- Huge guns, lanky frame, assassin like name and look
Megaton- Club doorman like appearance, big, burly and solid

I dig'em all, but I like the first design best. It is a lil less humanly proportioned and to me more intimidating. It actually is a lil gorilla-esque. And its more practical, he barely has to bend his knees to scoop mutants off the ground, presuming he's giant like the old ones are. You always do good stuff.

nothing but love for your style and your comics man, and I am not trying to be too critical, but for a 25 year old comic fan, who was weaned on Jack Kirby from days before I can remember, I will miss that classic facial design of the original Sentinel, so cold, so uncaring.
Still, nothing but love for this new designs... and I guess I see a little bit of the original in their faces... just a tad.
