Description I absolutely love mermaids, if ya couldn't tell. And yes, I know this is only line art, but this was the best I could do with my brain trying to focus on another hyper fixation at the same time. So best to get something than do nothing for the rest of this month.

Now, some may remember another merformer drawing I posted here back in the day. Well, this is some updated concepts I had for the whole species. While still inspired mostly by JazzTheTiger and their art of Knockout, another inspiration came to me by MelSpyRose and their whole au sequel story they made. I would recommend if you are curious, but if some of the things in their alt-universe put you off, then it's your call. (Seriously, Mel, your work is awesome, keep it up. I love the way you draw these characters)

Anyway, while the basic story for my interpretation of Mermechs haven't been altered too much, there are some things I improved and changed on them. I'll post more if anyone gets curious, but the basics go like this:

In the Aligned continuity of Transformers (specifically the Prime cartoon), It's established that many long years ago in Earth's past that Predacon clones were sent there by the Cons to capture and guard Energon deposits. However, due to their biology, the clones slowly starved to death and were lost to time, leaving their remains to inspire most of the human folk lore about dragons and griffins and the like in the future. But, what if some of them managed to find a way to survive? These are a product of a "What if" scenario where the Predicon clones that did survive were the ones based off of Sea monsters and sea serpents. That the ones who survived did so by going deep under water to hidden energon caches and found a way of surviving. It is shown that Predaking and others like him are capable of transformation, so what if they could find a way to harvest and consume raw energon? From there, the subspecies that would emerge from these survivors would evolve to be sort of Techno-organics. Having traits of both organic and Cybertronian genetics, I imagined that these 3 types of forms would emerge: Creature types, Mystic types, and Nereids.

Starting from the far left, are Creature types. These bots have traits/alt-forms similar to marine life. Sharks, fish, crustaceans, aquatic mammals, the range is basically limitless to the life found in the world's oceans. These types of mermechs are the most commonly found in modern day, due to circumstances leading to their kind having to go into hiding.

In the middle are the Mystic types. These bots take the forms of classic mythological creatures, like merfolk, sea serpents, and others. These could be considered the origin forms of the species as their founding figure was a Sea serpent type Predacon. The elites or royals/nobles of the kind. Though abundant in ancient times, they have since become the second most rare of the types.

And lastly, far right, are the Nereids. These are a fairly new and very rare form of Mermech. According to some sources, a Nereid is a form of mermaid that is known for having two tails or legs that end in fins. As these are more bipedal in form, they are also capable of living a more amphibious lifestyle, though they are mostly aquatic. For these guys, I took inspiration from two places. One was the sea monsters from Pixar's film "Luca", and the other was from the Mutio in the anime ova "Blue Submarine No. 6".

While all of these are vastly different, there are a few things that stay the same across all 3 types. First, a trident like crest or marking somewhere on the body. Usually along the helm. Second, a type of Spark viewing port located in the center of the chest area, as they are more spiritually/mystically bound bots. These are protected under a crystal-like dome that allows the spark's light to illuminate out from them. Third, they possess both bioluminescence and an ability to blend into their surroundings to hide from threats. And lastly, their techno-organic nature. They consume both energon and organic matter to survive. Be it sea food or aquatic plants, they must consume it like other organic beings, even if it's in limited quantities. As for how they consume the energon crystals, their jaw structure includes a set of specialized molar-like denta that can crush rock hard objects like certain rays or fish that eat crabs and shellfish. They can also be capable of reproduction as a result of their organic guided evolution.

I have so much more to talk about these guys, but I'll stop there for now. And if anyone is interested in learning more about this, I'll consider posting more about them. But for now, let me know what you guys all think, and if there's demand for more I'll post some more pics I have stored in my archives.

Transformers belongs to Hasbro
Luca belongs to Disney/Pixar
Blue Submarine No. 6 and the Mutio belongs to Satoru Ozawa

Honorable mentions go to JazzTheTiger and MelSpyRose
