Description
So this is it. This is what myself and Andy have been working on for the past few weeks and what we have decided to place production of the My Little Mages video game on hold to do instead. Based on some of the designs from MLM, it is an original story that we have been developing together over the past year shown in a motion comic series. We have about 10 episodes planned and aim to product them with the highest quality we can offer. We aim to begin production of episode 1 soon. Which is admittedly going to be a challenge as my military career has me on deployment for 2 months starting next week. If anyone would like to audition to be part of our team (the background artist was only commissioned for the promo and we are always looking for voice actors) then address all visual skill to myself and all audio skill to Andy at [link] Oh, and the artist who did the backgrounds for us, here's her DA gallery [link]

Thank you. One of the things that we want to get across with Jessie is to have a strong female character in a fantasy story that doesn't walk around in a chain-mail bikini or a big empty spot in her armor for her cleavage to pop out.

Of course, one should always be careful not to go too far in the opposite direction and make her an overly arrogant bitch.
That's always a big question; what, exactly, makes a character human?

We've taken great care to make Jessie a strong female character and not just a female character with a masculine personality. Much inspiration came from Lauren Faust's philosophy behind her reboot of My Little Pony. Jessie's regular outfit will look almost exactly like Apple Jack's My Little Mages design.
It's always an interesting question of what makes a character human. One of my favorite ways of exploiting this is to ask myself "what would make this character break down and cry?" Referencing the gripping scene from the Watchmen when the Comedian is sobbing like a baby.

Can't say I'm much of a My Little Pony person but that's not because of the characters (except for Pinkie Pie, who annoys the crap out of me). Inspiration is inspiration and I hope it goes well for you.
That's actually a really good question. Of course, you can't really use that for characters like Lara Croft in the reboot because the answer would be "five seconds passing" (she is an adequate character, that is a joke, please don't kill me). Still an excellent question, though.

Well, I suppose a literal take on "what makes them cry" doesn't work for every character. I guess a broader way of saying it is how much can a character take emotionally until they just can't take anymore. Good character development comes from what brought them to that point and how they react to it. Any character can take emotional stress and suppress it to move on, Lara Croft in the reboot had to survive by suppressing a lot of her fear and humanity. The first time that she kills a person is a defining moment for her in that game. The most prominent trait of Lara and the overall theme of the story is that despite being an emotional little girl, she has the strength to do anything to survive. And it's through the story that she comes to embrace that part of her and rely on it to keep her alive.
And it's because of stuff like this, that I love writing character driven stories.

I love writing characters in general. I like villains or characters with darkness in them but, if there's one thing I hate, it's a villain who's evil for the sake of being evil.

sorry to pop into this interesting conversation, but getting back to the "what makes character's cry," thingy, Sir Ian McKellen is one of the most revered actors of our time and he has never cried on stage. Not ever.
And rest assured. The story is all mapped out and all of our main villains have motivations beyond being evil for the sake of being evil. Unless they're harpies.

If you have need of a really deep voice or good maniacal/evil laughter, I could record some (Though I can't promise high quality) and see if you'd be interested
