Description
A red eye tree frog.
I show this 3 markers challenge at youtube and, I thought it would be fun to try it myself, but digitally.
The process of this challenge is to draw something from a pick up of 3 random color markers with closed eyes. I choose the 3 markers from an old Carioca Felt Tip Markers set and, I decided to draw something from the animal kingdom limited to those colors. I wanted my image to be of a realistic kind approach and, the animal kingdom is full of extreme colors and, that’s helpful.
When the colors were selected it just felt right with these colors to draw a red eye tree frog and, keep some of the realism that I wanted to retain.
I made this challenge digitally with the program Made With Mischief. I reproduce the 3 picked colors digitally as precisely as I could. I tried to work this piece digital emulating the natural media process. I worked the frog sketch line, colors, black ink marker, all in one layer with Mischief’s default brush that has some transparency and builds up like a marker. The effect of the white thick ink, I worked on a separate layer. I worked the background colors on a separate layer too.
Unfortunately Mischief at present doesn’t support blending layers options and to achieve the marker’s darkest blending effect I finished the piece with Krita, a free drawing program with a duplicate layer of the image in multiply blend mode.

Thank you, for liking my piece. I think, working with a limited colour palette you can produce some interesting and stylistic results. And, it is a challenge and a great practice.

Great job! Those colors can be really hard to pull off, and I think you did a great job. I'm loving the white highlights.

Thank you, for your comments. The trick with the white highlights dots helped a lot to achieve a more realistic look. I used the dots trick to blend the colors also with this piece but more subtle. I learned this trick for blending colors back at my school days, when I usually had limited color sets markers or too many half dried cheap markers.

You're welcome! I think I see what you mean - the little dots of pink on the green and vice versa, right? The dots trick is very effective!
