Description
Ported to OBJ from the low-poly model by Tom Sanford for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CF2), derived from an earlier "tall ship" model by PSullyKeys. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
There have been two sailing frigates named HMS Surprise in world naval history to date. The first was the original, built in 1797 as the French corvette Unité (Unity), which was captured by the British Royal Navy warship HMS Inconstant in 1796 and renamed HMS Surprise while in Royal Navy service. She served until 1802, when she was decommissioned and sold and then broken up shortly thereafter. The second is actually a modern American-owned ship, the former HMS Rose (Canadian built), which was built as a close copy of the original HMS Rose and had quite the career until noted naval fiction author Patrick O'Brian (of the Master and Commander series fame) happened to remark that if she were repainted, she would be a "dead ringer" for the original HMS Surprise, which he featured in many of his novels. The owner of the vessel at the time promptly did just that, and it was later used for the film adaptation of O'Brian's novel Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003). The second HMS Surprise, which is still an American-owned vessel despite the (unofficial) Royal Navy prefix to her name, is currently owned by the Maritime Museum of San Diego, and maintained as a fully operation "tall ship" after a meticulous restoration. She makes yearly cruises with other tall ships of the world, and is sometimes used to represent other British sailing frigates from the era in various media (such as HMS Providence in the feature film Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides). This is a straight port with no changes by me. It's a low poly CFS2 model, and to be honest is nothing more than a somewhat tweaked and redressed version of Mr. Sanford's low poly stock CFS2 tall ship model so it can better resemble its intended subject. All the same, it was free and right now it's the only CG model of HMS Surprise that I have, so I'm sharing it with you as today's ship model extra. Enjoy.
Due to the nature of this model, I recommend posing it at a distance in your own 3D projects.
This is not my model. All I did was port it to OBJ for you. Please credit Tom Sanford for the original. You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
