Description

Ported to OBJ from the background model created by Lesta Studios for World of Warships (WoW).  Special thanks to the folks at Pack 3D for posting the original ripped model.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

A barque (also spelled bark) is a type of classic tall ship sailing vessel having three or more masts, with square sails on the fore and main mast and triangular sails both on the aft mast (or mizzen mast) and also  "fore-and-aft," between the bow or stern and the closest mast.  Both the term as we know it and the sail layout that defines this tall ship type were formalized in the 19th century.  Prior to that the English Navy used the term bark (also spelled barke at the time) to denote any type of large tall ship obtained for its service that was at least as big as a sloop but not rigged like one.  In terms of tall ships a barque is widely considered to be the best compromise between a schooner and a barkentine in terms of being able to catch and tack with the wind, and is easier to handle with a smaller crew than a comparable full-rigged tall ship such as an oceangoing clipper.  Barques are and have been the preferred design for most deepwater commercial sailing ships from the 19th century onward, and there are a number of both historic and current examples to ponder.  These include the German commercial barque MS Pommern (the oldest original barque that's still operational), the U.S. Coast Guard training ship USCGC Eagle (ex MS Horst Wessel, a former World War II war prize taken from Nazi Germany), the seaworthy museum barque Star of India (a former full-rigged ship later converted into a barque and currently the world's oldest operational tall ship), Australia's James Craig, and the museum barque Charles W. Morgan.  To find out more about sailing barques, follow the link below:

I didn't know that not all of WoW's ship models were in the 6-digit ultra high poly range until I got some time off work recently, and started going through the big pile of WoW ship model rips done by others that I've been able to collect from various and sundry places on the Internet.  This is one of their "low end" ones, surprisingly enough, even though it's a tall ship (or large oceangoing sailing ship to the rest of you).  I'm guessing it's a background model, something you'd see in a port somewhere during game play, given the fact that its sails are furled (taken up), but that's just a guess.  Anyway the poly count is low enough that you can use it in the free XNALara XPS 3D posing program without it chewing up a big chunk of your memory pool in the process, and that's a good thing.  Because of that, all of you who need a good generic tall ship (that isn't a historic warship or the like) for whatever 3D project you have in mind now have one.  Oh, and if anyone wants to further modify this, such as adding unfurled sails or arming it or changing the paint job/textures, I don't mind if Lesta Studios doesn't.

This is not my model.  All I did was get the publicly available ripped 3D model from Pack 3D and port it into a form of the common OBJ format that works with the free XNALara XPS 3D posing program for you.  That also means it should in theory work in all other 3D software that supports or can import OBJ models because of this, but no promises.  Please credit Lesta Studios if you use this in any of your own 3D projects.  You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
