The two aircraft carriers of the Implacable class (Implacable, Indefatigable) came about due to efforts by the British Royal Navy (BRN/RN or just Royal Navy) to milk the most that it could out of its Illustrious class carrier design during World War II. They were a further development of the one-off Indomitable, which had started as the fourth member of the Illustrious class but was modified during construction in order to be faster and to carry more aircraft. Implacable had four engines of a newer design instead of the three of Illustrious, which gave it a top speed of 32 knots at standard load (comparable to American and Japanese fleet carriers, BTW). The key element internally of its redesign was the addition of a second lower hangar that could fit twelve (12) more aircraft than Illustrious, and its flight deck was also lengthened somewhat to better handler the newer and larger aircraft that were coming into service, such as the Faery Albacore torpedo bomber. The price Implacable paid to accommodate these changes on the Illustrious hull form was a thinning of her armor, although she was still fairly heavily armored when compared to her counterparts in other navies. Both ships in the class were initially assigned to support the Battle of the Atlantic off of the Norwegian coast when they first entered service in 1944, but the following year they were reassigned to support Allied operations against the Japanese in the Pacific. Their seeming ability to simply shrug off a direct kamikaze hit (Indefagitable, 1 April 1945), thanks to their armored flight decks and other armored protection, amazed both the Japanese and their American allies. It did a lot to change their thinking with regards to how they would build their own subsequent wartime carrier classes. After the war was over and they being the newest Royal Navy fleet carriers in service, there were initial plans to substantially modernize them in the early 1950s following the completion of the modernization of HMS Victorious. Sadly that never happened due to a combination of factors: the way they had been built (which required more work to modernize than a standard Illustrious), delays and massive cost overruns with the modernization of Victorious (which would be the last WW2-era Royal Navy fleet carrier to be modernized), and the unwelcome realization due to the postwar downturn in the British economy that the Royal Navy simply wouldn't have the money to go through with it. The Implacable modernization program was officially cancelled in 1954, and as both were already in reserve by that point, both were promptly "paid off" and listed for disposal. Implacable was sent to the breakers in 1955, and Indefagatable followed her a year later. This is a straight port with no changes by me. It best represents HMS Indefagatable as she was after she first entered service in 1944, when she was first assigned to support Royal Navy operations in the North Atlantic. I also note in passing that given its similarities this model will work with any custom textures designed for stuart277's Illustrious class, so you can either tap those for modding or make your own custom textures the same way if you need some variety in how this looks.
