Return of the Jedi (ROTJ) gave us among many other new and cool and peachy-keen Star Wars Original Trilogy spacecraft designs the most advanced version of the classic Imperial TIE fighter in its time.  It's known as the TIE Interceptor, it's the second and more powerful TIE design offshoot based on Darth Vader's prototype advanced TIE fighter from the original Star Wars feature film, and it is one HELL of foe to try and fight with an old X-wing.  It's got the same firepower but a smaller and decidely more agile space frame, coupled with even better engines than the original TIE fighter, that in turn allow it to literally run rings around an X-wing, even one with a good pilot.  The TIE Interceptor is one of the main reasons why the Rebel Alliance had to go get an all-new advanced snub fighter of its own to better deal with it, and that was the A-wing ... but I digress.  Anyway, there's all kinds of official and fannish stuff out there on the TIE Interceptor and I'll let you go look all of it up yourself if you want.

One other thing, and this is strictly personal from me.  For me, this is and always has been the coolest and most bad-ass Imperial fighter of them all.  Yes, I know all kinds of nifty new ones have come out since, and more than a few of those could probably turn this on its ear, but you have to remember I'm a proud member of the Original Trilogy first generation of Star Wars fans.  The TIE Interceptor's incredible debut in ROTJ made quite an impression on me back then, as it did many others.  This was one of the few I actually went to the trouble of getting the rather expensive and at one time hard-to-find Kenner toy version for my own memorabilia collection.  Long gone now as is all of my old Star Wars stuff, and it's since been reissued of course, but I still have the memories and my impressions from back then.  You know what I mean, don't you?  Of course you do.  XD

May the Force be with you.
