Description

Ported to OBJ from the model created for use with the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  See my entry on the TMP era Bird-of-Prey for original designer credits.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  While I'm not making this particular port of mine available for public download, there are PLENTY of Klingon Bird-of-Prey CG models out there.  The one by Dave "First Fleet" Metlesits is particularly good and it's absolutely free to boot.  Here's the link:

All right kiddies, I'll try to keep this as simple as I can.  This is nothing more than the TMP era B'rel class Bird-of-Prey but upsized significantly to better match with the bigger and larger TNG/DS9/VOY era Feddie and Klink capital ships.  That's why B'rel and the larger K'vort look exactly alike.  Reason?  It was easier and cheaper to do that at the time TNG was in its early years of production that build an all-new Klingon starship model, given that the TNG production team didn't have the luxury of CGI like we do now.  It wasn't until the third season TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" that this upsized version finally got a class name - K'Vort - as mentioned in dialogue in that episode.  FYI that new era-specific Klingon starship class had to wait until TNG's fourth season to finally be created and used in the show, but for more on that see my entry on the Vor'Cha class here at Mandels.  Back to the subject.  As shown in the preview piccy the larger K'Vort supposedly can't swing its wings up and down like the smaller TMP era B'rel and they're supposedly permanently fixed in the position, although this was inconsistently applied during TNG's first two seasons and you'll see examples in those of K'Vorts with their wings down as in the preview piccy for Dave's CG model.  Again, this was just the TNG team working out what to do with K'Vort and how best to treat it along the way and as they went.  There's been lots of stuff with K'Vort both in Franchise and fanon form and I'll let you look all of that up yourselves.

K'Vort is always treated as a cruiser class in official TNG/DS9/VOY Franchise media, so you need to do the same and in spite of it being nothing more than an enlarged B'rel.  Adjusted K'Vort specific stats are available elsewhere.  Oh, and BTW there also appear to be smaller B'rel type Birds-of-Prey in the TNG/DS9/VOY era too, given the evidence, and that make things even more confusing and interesting.  What else can I say?  The old "on screen" canon rule, you know.  We're stuck with it and Trek fandom will always be stuck with it, so live with and adjust to it as best you can.

This is indisputably canon.  'Nuff said.
