Description
Ported to OBJ from the Tyrannus class model created by Taldren Studios and included with the video game Starfleet Command 3 (SFC3). Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
NOTE - I've changed the name of this Gorn starship class in order to avoid a conflict with the Tyrannus class from Star Trek Online (STO), which I will be writing up for Mandel's at a later date.
For those who were curious. This is the auxiliary cruiser variant on the ubiquitous Gorn Type F from the TMP era (see separate entry) which they used for just about anything and for almost any purpose during the TMP and post-TMP eras. I'm giving this particular Type F variant its own separate entry since it's visually distinctive from almost all of the rest, and I'm slotting it in the post-TMP era instead of the TMP era because of its more prominent use in the post-TMP era by both the Gorn and other species. More on that in the next paragraph. Note the added weaponry, in particular the second heavy Gorn plasma torpedo system as opposed to the stock light plasma torpedo system (which it retained)? These were a lot cheaper to build than a standard Gorn small capital ship class and so the Gorn built them in droves, even though they knew they were weaker structurally given their design origins as stock generic transports (hence the auxiliary in the auxiliary cruiser designation). These got used a lot by the Gorn as standard patrol craft in "less contested areas" (smile), as convoy escorts, and so on.
One should also take note of a specially modified and somewhat stripped-down version of this that the Gorn manufactured for export purposes. The two biggest differences were that all Gorn heavy weaponry was removed (i.e. the heavy and light plasma torpedo systems) and a fair amount of simplification of internal systems and spaces was done for non-Gorn use. The buyer was expected to provide and install their own heavy weaponry in the two empty mounts, as well as to add whatever extra internal modifications were required for their own use. These sold surprisingly well, and the comment made by one local system buyer for their defense fleet was typical: "It may be a souped-up transport but it's a Gorn transport, and you can beat the hell out of those and they'll still be able to fly." That's why it was common to see modified Gorn Type F auxiliary cruisers with all manner of custom heavy weaponry and the occasional unique local tweak or two along the way in use by multiple system self-defense fleets throughout the post-TMP era and beyond.
This is canon, given its use in a Franchise licensed product (SFC3). My replacement backstory is canon, so keep or discard it as you like or come up with one of your own. After all, Trek is a multiverse.
"We destroy invaders as I shall destroy you!"
ASIDE - For some weird reason this keeps showing up in many fan references as a Gorn battleship class, and I think that may be the fault of the original game. Taldren took a lot of its older custom Gorn starship models and modded/hacked them, as well as reclassifying some, for SFC3 -- which leaves it up to the rest of us later on down the line to sort things back out the way they should be.
