Description

Ported to OBJ from the low poly CG model created for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Based on the original TOS era F-5 Kuve class design by Stephen V. Cole and the Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) for the Star Fleet Battles (SFB) tabletop sci-fi wargame.  Original TMP era concept by "Jose" with assistance from Klingon Fanatic; this later and improved version is by Demon Renegade Studios.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

The TMP era would see the venerable Klingon Kuve class frigate (pronounced KOO-vay) get its final and most extensive refit so it could remain current as a vital fleet element during that time.  This would be the last hurrah for Kuve, whose origins can be traced to the pre-TOS days but remained around for as long as it did because it was such a good little ship.  It finally found a worthy successor to its mantle of small hull form excellence in the TMP era Brel class Bird-of-Prey, and that's why Kuve finally got to "shuffle off to Buffalo" and began to phased out of Klingon service before the end of the TMP era.  All that said, the final TMP era form of Kuve was just as nasty a starship combatant as it had always been and retained its popularity in both the Imperial and various House fleets all the way to the end.  It was more or less as many of the K't'inga upgrades and improvements as possible squeezed down to fit Kuve's smaller hull form.  It did very well in its new TMP form, just as Kuve had always done, and in retrospect it was a fitting way to send off one of the longest serving and most respected Klingon small starship combatants of all time.

I should add that it's quite possible that some TMP era rebuilt Kuves made it into the TNG/DS9/VOY era, although they would be very old by that time and most likely either in private ownership or in some House fleet's reserve or boneyard.  I had no record of this in my own research, but that's been a while now.  Given that Trek is now officially a multiverse, maybe some survived in your particular preferred thread(s).  Whatever works for you.

Kuve is semi-canon only in its original TOS era form as created for SFB.  The TMP era Kuve is fanon, but it's commonly treated as semi-canon given that it's based on a semi-canon design.  How you treat it in your own Trek efforts is up to you.

'IwlIj jachjaj!

NOTE - The E-4 Sek'leth class escort gets a similar TMP era upgrade, as it was based on the F-5 Kuve space frame per the original SFB materials.  See separate entry once I get it posted.
