Description

A custom model by me made from 3D CGI parts originally created by Atrahasis for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games by Activision.  Original Sho'tar desigh by Eric Kristiansen as covered in some of his various Jackill's series of Trek fan publications.  Previw picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

This is the scout version of the TOS era Lechtu class destroyer, and is easily distinguished from Lecthu by the complete absence of any kind of heavy weaponry.  Its absence makes room for its electronic warfare and intelligence gathering suite.  It was also fitted with a somewhat weaker warp engine than Lechtu (the same as used on the K-5 Dupat instead of the beefier one from a D-6/D-7 Raxor/Klolode as with Lecthu), since it didn't need the extra warp power for arming heavy disruptors and such.  It still carries the same phaser battery as Lechtu, retained so it can defend itself if attacked.  It is the Klingon analog to the Federation's Hermes class scout in this era, more heavily armed of the two but with somewhat inferior intelligence gathering and electronic warfare capabilities .  All that said it was still very good for what it did for a Klingon scout class, and was better by far in its role than the older, far smaller, and decidedly inferior Akhist.  Sho'tar was retained, refitted, and substantially upgraded for the TMP era, gaining a beefed-up K't'inga type warp engine and a greatly improved electronics suite (among other upgrades).  It is believed not to have lasted in either Imperial or House fleet service for too long beyond the end of the TMP era given the age of the class.  None are known to survive anywhere in active service by the time the TNG/DS9/VOY era rolls around.  For more info, see my entry on Lecthu:

This is fanon but it's good fanon IMHO.  Whether or not you use it in your thread(s) of the Trek multiverse is up to you.

'IwlIj jachjaj!

ASIDE - I've included this in the online edition of Mandel's strictly for those of you who insist on having a one-on-matchup between Federation and Klingon starship types in the TOS/TAS and TMP eras.  Many fans go with the old scout mod of SFB's F-5 Kuve given that it's better known and is semi-canon, since it's part of two Trek game canons (SFB/SFC).  Of course, whatever works for you (grin-and-wink)
