The Visby class corvette of the Royal Swedish Navy (Svenska marinen) caused a lot of heads to turn when it first entered service in 2009. That is because it was one of the first regular warship classes in the world commissioned into service as a stealth ship - low profile, with angular surfaces and a composite hull design incorporating PVC, carbon fiber, and vinyl laminate to reduce its surface radar signature as much as physically possible. This design also makes it lighter than its contemporaries (increasing both maneuverability and range) and reduces its magnetic signature significantly (which makes it a difficult target for magnetic mines and such). Its main gun, which is mounted forward, has a collapsible barrel which can literally be folded up and stowed internally, which further reduces its radar cross-signature. It has a helicopter landing platform aft but no internal hangar due to limited interior space, and is armed and equipped for both anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and mine countermeasures (MCM) operations. The Visbys were understandably very expensive ships to build, taking anywhere from two to five years apiece to build given available funding, and in the end the last ship of the planned class of six was cancelled because of funding issues. The five Visbys that were built have proven to be very successful (if expensive) while in service, and reportedly Sweden is currently mulling over the possibility of somehow coming up with the funding of a second block or generation of additional Visbys for its surface fleet. This is the game stock model with no changes by me. I must point out that there is an error with this model in that it has a dual Bofors 57mm main gun system mounted forward (note the two barrels), instead of the single Bofors 57mm of the real thing. If anyone wants to fix my OBJ port of this model and re-release the fixed version, or make any other changes/mods/hacks, you have my permission so long as you credit the original source.
This is not my model. All I did was port it to OBJ for you. Please credit Eugen Systems for the original if you use this in your own 3D projects and efforts. You do not have to credit me for my part.
