Late TMP era Tholian single pilot space fighter craft that also saw use during the early post-TMP era. Looks almost exactly like a regular classic Tholian patrol cruiser save for being far smaller and being both lit and painted differently. Mainly used for defense purposes and most frequently found guarding Tholian space bases and important installations. These were also quite effective on the offense as well in the few times they were used as part of the handful of Tholian offensive operations undertaken during this time frame. The surprise of their simply being deployed at all during said operations (Tholians were and are still not known for regularly undertaking small combatant operations) plus their poweful plasma missile weaponry made them among the time period's more unique small combatants to deal with. They were not seen again after the first couple of decades of the post-TMP era, reasons unknown.
This is semi-canon, as it comes from a Franchise licensed video game.
ASIDE - What few sources I can find on the Shard or its analogues in other Trek multiverse timelines - and there's not a lot even on Tholian fighters as a whole - appear to indicate that seeing a Shard, much less a pack or whole flight of them, was a rather rare thing -- unless you were either attacking a Tholian base or during one of those few and rather rare Tholian offensive actions during this time frame. Whenever they did appear, however, they were a foe to be reckoned with. There's also different paint schemes and somewhat different configurations that what you see above, most likely depending to what squadron or the like it belonged and on how a particular version or variant was going to be used in combat. Mix and match as you will for whatever you need in your own stuff, I say. XD
