Description

Ported to OBJ from the model originally created by Terradyhne for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series. My source was from an old Star Trek Armada 2 (A2) fan add-on pack. Based on the original design created by Stephen V. Cole and the Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) for the Star Fleet Blattles (SFB) tabletop sci-fi war game. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD, although you can still find the "thostholians" pack on several online sites that still host Armada 2 fan mods. Good luck hunting and porting. XD

As with all of their TOS/TAS era older model and upgraded starship classes, the Tholians rebuilt and refitted their classic "heavy" cruisers for the TMP era, and they came out much the better for it. With improved web casters and a more powerful web generator, with Klingon style disruptors added to their upgraded phaser battery as a fallback quick response heavy weapons capability, and with a more powerful warp engine (greater speed, higher power levels, stronger shields), the Tholian "heavy" cruiser was finally a true heavy cruiser at last in the true sense of the term. Admittedly it was on the lower end of the TMP era heavy cruiser scale in terms of size and stats alone (or the high end of TOS/TAS era models, take your pick), but its onboard web technology coupled with Tholian starship captains who knew how to use it effectively in combat (and most of them did) put it solidly at the top of the second tier of the most respected TMP era heavy cruisers fielded by anyone, as records from the time will attest. That's why you don't see me putting quotes around the word "heavy" in this entry's title line with regards to the refitted TMP era version of this. As with the smaller patrol cruisers all older upgraded models were refitted first (less work involved, quicker to return to service), then all the ones remaining which need both refits were brought in and rebuilt accordingly. The last sighting of a refitted classic Tholian heavy cruiser was in the middle of the post-TMP era.

This is semi-canon (with fanon enhancements, wink), as the original Tholian CA+ was created for the SFB gaming continuity.

ASIDE - I had a helluva time reverse-porting this from the Armada 2 SOD model format and the model lost all of its texture mapping in the process. I had to come up with my own replacement textures based on the ones included and from the tiny thumbnail piccy included with the model pack. I hope my recreation isn't too screwed up, and my apologies to Terradyhne if I got anything wrong.
