"Almost a Date"
While paying a visit with longtime friends Kimmy Stevens and Reina Flannigan at the local bar Reina owns and operates, the vacationing older Brandy Watts recalls the time back before she was married that was the closest she ever came to having a date with her single boss back then, the good-looking and attractive young attorney Alan Hansen. As you might recall he very much wanted to date her at the time before he found out she was falling in love with her neighbor and future husband Larry Watts. Brandy also recalls how fellow co-worker and good friend Jodie Marks (Alan's future wife) reacted to the situation, given Jodie's desperation at the time over getting a date with Alan any way she could even though he wasn't interested in her back then. Oh, but how times change!

COMMENTS
Brandy's tale in this episode is set late in the first season of the Autumn Spring web comic and its novelization, during the month-and-a-half gap between the events depicted in Episode 9, "Meet the Folks," and Episode 10, "A Secondary Interlude."
I got Brandy's hairstyle wrong in the episode preview piccy above. I used her second season work outfit model with its long hair by mistake instead of her first season workplace model with its shorter and more simple hairstyle. Brandy grew her hair longer for Larry early in their "year of trial" while they were dating, and you can see the change in hairstyle during the second season premiere, "Beach Party Richland." If I fix this preview piccy, it won't be until after this story gets rolling, okay? Or if you rather I leave it as it is, just say so. Thanks.
This episode was inspired by a rough one-paragraph sketch simply titled "The Date" that I later worked up into a two-part story outline, with the first part titled "To Square the Circle" and the second "The Royal Treament." At the time my intent was that this was going to be finale for the first season of the Autumn Spring web comic. In the original version of events per that final two-part outline Alan would have come right out and asked Brandy for a date. After talking the matter over with Larry, she would have agreed but only on the condition that Alan take Jodie out on a date too, given how badly Jodie wanted her own date with Alan and as Brandy and everyone else knew at the office knew full well. Alan figures that this may very well be the only chance he gets to impress Brandy in a romantic way, so for their date and in a setup straight out of one of Larry's own daydream nightmares he treats her to dinner at Zifani's, the most expensive restaurant in town. XD I eventually set that story draft aside and never came back to it given the way the first season developed, although I left that month-and-a-half gap in the series timeline when it would have taken place. Now's my chance to slot an all-new Tales episode into that gap, although "Almost a Date" will play differently than that old draft even though I will be recycling some of its minor story ideas. Stay tuned!
