Ported to OBJ and further modified from the original low-poly SketchUp model by Sir Topham Hatt.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

The cancelled Ulyvanosk class of aircraft carriers, originally known as the Kremlin class to the West and based in part on the never-built Orel design study, was going to be the next logical step for the Soviet Navy in its own evolution of aircraft carrier design.  It was at its most basic a somewhat enlarged Kuznetsov (larger than Forrestal but smaller than Nimitz) in order to be able to handle two Kirov-type CONAS (combined nuclear and steam) propulsion plants (or four, depending on the source quoted).  This would have made it the Soviet analog to the US. Navy's own Nimitz class supercarriers.  It would have also been the first Soviet aircraft carrier fitted with steam catapults, instead of the large ski jump ramp employed on Kuznetsov (this model has the ski ramp courtesy of its original creator - ed).  The added size also allowed for the adding of a third deck edge lift, as opposed to Kuznetsov's two.  To make a long story short three things conspired to keep Ulyvanosk from ever entering service.  The first was the failure of Soviet engineering to develop their own reliable steam catapult system powerful enough to launch modern heavy naval jet aircraft, despite assistance from a friendly India (which allowed them to do in-depth studies of the steam catapults on its older British-obtained carriers Vikrant and Viraat).  Second was the fall of the Soviet Union, which found the lead ship in the class (Ulyvanosk) only 40% complete and the second (Pyotir Veiliky) having never been laid down, and with the successor Russian Federation lacking the hard cash to finish it.  Third, there was also a lot of bickering between the new Russian Federation (which owned the carrier) and the now-independent Ukraine (which owned the shipyard) over the next few months as to who should get it once it was done.  In the end both agreed that the best thing to do was to scrap it in its slip and divvy up the parts for use in other vessels of their own.  The scrapping of the incomplete Ulyvanosk was completed by the end of 1992, and with that ended a long standing Russian dream of building supercarriers that could equal those of the U.S. Navy ... for the time being, anyway. Sir Topham Hatt's low-poly SketchUp model is currently the only free CG model of Ulyvanosk that's out there.  It's a waterline only model in original form, so I added a retextured and reshaped Kuznetsov keel from the common game rip in order to make it a full hull model (which I prefer).  It's just stuck in place, with no vert welding, so it can be easily removed if you want.  I also did a fair amount of retexturing in order to make it look more like the concept pictures I've seen posted online.  I didn't add any of the missing weapons or other items, since the real ship was never finished and this is supposed to be a concept model only, but you can add them yourself if you want,  I also think there may still be an issue with flipped nomals in places (common issue with SketchUp ports), but I let someone else fix those.
