A map of Isla Nublar as it is decribed in my Jurassic World rewrite (see links below).

Forty years after the discovery of the island, spaniard settlers built a mining town, San Fernandez, near the foot of Mount Sibo, Nublar's highest point and sole active volcano. To increase the yield of the mines, the colony relied on BriBri slaves deported from the mainland and despite the deaths due to exhaustion and tunnels' crumblings because of the tremors that shook the island's underground, the greed of the governor and the conquistadors seemed to have not limits and only ended when Mount Sibo awakened. While fire and ash were raining down on the colony and the civilians fleeing to the coast and the ships, the Amerindian slaves revolted and headed south, towards the marshy plateau in the southern part of the island. There, they established a village and formed a new tribe, the Tun-Si or Water Men.

As San Fernandez's story was becoming legend and then a myth, the Tun-Si lived peacefully on Isla Nublar for a few centuries, until a biotechnology corporation named InGen took interest on the island. Being located half-way between the Costarican mainland and their facilities on Isla Sorna in the Five Deaths Archipelago, InGen thought the island was the perfect place to establish their resort project and thus broke a leasing deal with the Costa Rican government. This decision was not met without resistance from the Tun-Si but InGen hired mercenaries to expel the islanders by force from their homeland. Once they had been all relocated on the mainland, the Tun-Si became a scattered and impoverished people that held since a deep grudge against InGen, but they were neither the only enemies of InGen, nor the most powerful.

InGen's project on Isla Nublar actually consisted in the building of a theme park housing dinosaurs, recreated thanks to recent progress in genetic engineering and bred in the first time on Isla Sorna and then, once construction on Nublar was advanced enough, on both islands. In 1993, the year of the incident that doomed the park, specimens of fifteen species (including one pterosaur) had been transported to or bred on Nublar :
- Tyrannosaurus rex
- "Velociraptor" antirrhopus (reclassified as Neoraptor athertonii once it has been discovered that InGen mixed Achillobator giganticus' and Deinonychus antirrhopus DNAs when they re-created . It has to be noted that in certain now outdated classifications, these two species were respectively named Velociraptor giganticus and Velociraptor antirrhopus)
- Dilophosaurus wetherilli
- Proceratosaurus bradleyi
- Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis
- Baryonyx walkeri
- Metriacanthosaurus parkeri
- Segisaurus halli
- Compsognathus longipes
- Gallimimus bullatus
- Brachiosaurus brancai (reclassified as Giraffatitan brancai a few years later)

John Hammond, the man behind the Jurassic Park project, claims to have spared no expense in making his dream come true but unfortunately, the truth was different as the park's showed several flaws in its systems and management and one certain greedy employee broke a deal with Biosyn, InGen's biggest rival, and sabotage the park's systems in the middle of a storm while a group was touring the park. This act led to dinosaurs' escapes and human casualties, ultimately dooming Hammond's park and forcing the survivors to flee the island.
In november of the following year, an expedition was sent by InGen to Isla Nublar with the objectives of salvaging expensive equipment, count the animals and determine the reasons behind the failure of the lysine solution. But while the so-dreaded "velociraptors" had been all killed during the 1993 incident, other predators still roamed the island and each species was violently carving itself a place in Nublar's unbalanced ecosystem, at the top of which was the female tyrannosaur who had played a major role in the previous incident. Ill-prepared and too confident when it landed, the expedition suffered many losses and was forced to leave.

After this another failure, Isla Nublar was abandoned, believed to be a lost cause, unlike Sorna whose thriving feral dinosaurs' populations represented a potential for InGen who planned to bring it into fruitition through the Harvest operation, which led to the infamous San Diego incident and its world-changing consequences.

Being charged by a dying Hammond to resurrect the Jurassic Park project as a plan to divert the attention from Isla Sorna's lost world, soon to be threatened by illegal touristic activities and poachers, the Indian billionaire Simon Masrani sought to built another park on Nublar, Jurassic World, but it was only after a second incident following an incursion on Sorna, the one of Horseshoe Bay in late 2001 where pteranodons attacked several civilians in British Columbia, that the United Nations allowed him to do so.
In the meanwhile, Isla Nublar's ecosystem had found a fragile equlibrium whose key stone was Roberta, the female tyrannosaur, but a third of Jurassic Park's species had went extinct on the island (The pteranodons, the brachiosaurs, the triceratops, the stegosaurs and the metriacanthosaurs). As the numbers of the remaining predator species were so low, the only major threat posed to the park's construction teams was Roberta but by capturing her, InGen's Security Division triggered unwanted consequences. As Nublar's apex predator, Roberta was exercing a strong pressure on the populations of smaller carnivores, preventing their populations to be too large and pose a threat to the recently arrived humans. Therefore, with her gone, the proceratosaurs and the herrerasaurs grew in numbers and devoured all the uncaptured herbivores before falling back on the then most abundant kind of meat on the island: manflesh. A series of conflicts between InGen's troops and the feral carnivores nicknamed the Saurian Wars followed and almost prevented the opening of Jurassic World. After months of what many called a "guerrilla warfare led by fucking lizards", InGen managed to put an end to the attacks, through means that are still unknown to the general public.

After years of struggle, Jurassic World was inaugured in June 2005 by Simon Masrani and the then president of the Costa Rican republic, Rolando Araya Monge.
Wherheas Jurassic Park was planned to be a relatively small-scaled safari resort, Jurassic World became over the years a larger and more ambitious park with an entire ancient-looking city, Burroughs, acting as the main hub, a permanent population of a few thousands employees necessary to run a park that welcomes twenty thousand visitors per weekend, a Lagoon that occupies more than twenty hectares, a two hundred meters high aviary, a 6000 hectares reserve which houses hundreds of dinosaurs, a volcano-shaped Discovery Center that puts Disneylands' castles to shame...
Some says that is it not just a theme park but almost an independant corporate-owned state off the coast of Costa Rica and in India, it had been even nicknamed Masrani's little Centramerican Raj.

In its twelve years of existence, the park never knew any major incident (aside from the hospitalisation of one of the park keepers, Owen Grady, mauled by a female Neoraptor in 2013) but since the appointment of the ambitious Claire Dearing at the position of park director in 2015, many employees are worried about the park's future and knew that what the island gives, it takes it back, sooner or later, one way or another.
By the end of 2017, as the park's management is planning the exhibition of the Indominus rex, InGen's first artificial dinosaur species, for the next year, telluric activity is increasing all over the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and tremors are felt on Isla Nublar at a growing rate.
Whatever the future holds, the days of Jurassic World seems to be numbered.
