Description I started this piece a couple months ago (having been thoroughly soaking myself in Jane Austen/Regency novels and films) but quickly lost interest in it and moved on.

However, getting a DD kicked my butt back into gear to finish this- so I'm dedicating it to ~Siate and ^mintyy who respectively nominated and chose me. Thank you both for the much needed motivation!

Wow. I can't even imagine how much time you must have put into this. Beautiful pixel art such as this just baffles me -- I would never have the patience [or the skill, for that matter ] to create something like this.

I love all the little details you've put into it: the pattern on the umbrella [which amazes me -- how you kept the pattern even with the shading], the curls in her hair, the hat [that I want oh so badly ]

A well-deserved DD indeed

My god, This is pixel art? I don't understand. It confuses me on how this actually can be done. Working on the individual pixel scale seems almost impossible. with 260x384 that comes out to approximately 10,000 (didn't have a calculator, so I estimated) and with the amount that is colored is I think 30% (not including circle, I think that was just a gradient, if it was done by hand that is amazing) so that comes out to 3000 pixels. Absolutely amazing. well done.

This is really beautiful, the palette is so soft and pretty and the dithering just completes it all. I love the Jane Austen influence, she is one of my favorite authors, and I have always wondered what it would be like if her literature was put into modern art. And now I know, thank you for sharing this (:

With the dithering on her arm, it looks like she is hairy, lol. ^^
But it's an amazing PA.

dilli-dalli In reply to ZeusEX81 [2010-08-15 20:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Haha! I think it's probably due to the difference in colors between monitors. On the computer it was created with, the skin colors blend into each seamlessly but on my work computer I can TOTALLY see the 'hairy arm' issue you mentioned because the colors look more distinct from each other. I wish there was a way to synch up all monitors for correct viewing!

Thank you so much for the feedback and the fave- I appreciate it!

I love her hair and bonnet the most. The floof of the hair really contrasts beautifully against the little details of the flowers.

The only bit I'm unsure on is the green of the shawl.. it stands out a lot compared to the cream and red colour scheme of everything else, however the deth in both the dress and the shawl is beautiful and more than makes up for it XD

I like how you've imprinted your own style on regency, instead of just going along with the more realistic regency style. It works to make something much newer and more exciting to look at ^^

Hey! I don't have a DevArt page, really, I just created an account so I can comment, but I wanted to say I looooove your work. I've been following it for years, and it's fascinating to see how your style has improved and developed over time! It almost seems like these days, your skill (always formidable) are truly matching up to your imagination better than ever.

Just thought you oughta know, it's been fun watching you grow. (Heh, that rhymes!)

Roxanne!

I'm so happy to hear from you! How have you been? Good I hope!

Thank you so much for the encouraging feedback and kind comments- you're so sweet! I wish I could take all the credit for improvement but I'm absolutely certain that a big part of it has to do with being surrounded by so many incredible artists; it's hard not to be inspired (and learn a few things in the process) with all these talented people gathering together on DA.

I hope to see you around! Thank you again!

A very nice piece with lots of delicate touches. The hair and hat are the things I fancy the most. I've been watching series based on Charles Dickinson stories myself, but since I always feel like drawing historical stuff I can't say it's affected my current whims It's also nice to see something new from you too
