Description I started this piece a couple months ago (having been thoroughly soaking myself in Jane Austen/Regency novels and films) but quickly lost interest in it and moved on.

However, getting a DD kicked my butt back into gear to finish this- so I'm dedicating it to ~Siate and ^mintyy who respectively nominated and chose me. Thank you both for the much needed motivation!

I must fav! I love Jane Austen novels and period films so I squee'd just a little when I saw this. Not to mention all the incredible details you added to her. The curls are to die for and the I love the flowers on her hat. I could just stare at this all night...

Yay period costume!!! <3 Gorgeous! Love love love that hat. She looks exactly like she stepped out of a pride and prejudice movie! <3 I seemed to have completely missed your transition to this new dither-prominent shading style XD But I love it. The folds are beautiful, and I love your choice of colours <3 always exciting to see you with a new doll

Thank you so much!

Haha! I think this piece and my mermaid encompassed the full 'transition'- those are the only two pieces I've finished in the last couple years (which is rather embarrassing to admit)...

Having been so absent from pixeling, I've kind of had to relearn the whole process again so, this time, I decided to really study other pixel artists I admire and I think that's where the big shift to dithering came from. It's so wonderful to be surrounded by so many creative minds- it becomes nearly impossible not to be inspired.

Thank you again for your encouraging comments- I appreciate it!

Super sweet work <3 I think what I like the most about the doll is her hat and the shading is so great. Your going to get another DD is you don't watch it I like Jane Austen too but I have got to read her books in years lol, I did when I was in school ^///^ But I like watching the movies of her work X3

Thank you so much- I appreciate that!

I tend to be more fond of the films, as well (mostly because I can do other things while watching, like crocheting or sketching). Books are great but films allow for easier multi-tasking!

Thank you again!

This piece is so stunning and I can't believe all the details in it. Such beautiful shading and those ringlets are to die for. I so must learn how to do proper ringlets! Those flowers on top of the hat are truly a masterpiece. Great job yet again!

Awww- thank you so much!

I still struggle with hair of all types (ringlets or not) but looking at ~Blumina 's Lady Lovely Locks pieces helped me so much with figuring out where the highlights would go. I know most artists advise people to study photographs and real-life figures to discern proper lighting- but I find that I learn things so much faster by studying other dollers and their fantastic work.

Thanks again!

I've always liked Victorian fashion, maybe because the dresses made such a stark change over 50 years or so, and of course the layering and subtle details.

This is pretty awesome, I reallly like the parasol and hat.

dilli-dalli In reply to AutumnEmbers [2010-07-26 06:32:15 +0000 UTC]

I hadn't really thought about it before but you're right- lots of change in a very short amount of time! And then fashion changed even more severely in the 50 years post-Victoriana than it had in 500 years prior to the era. Don't know precisely what any of that means but it is interesting to ponder how fashion gets tied in with political and social change...

Thank you for the kind feedback- I appreciate it!

AutumnEmbers In reply to dilli-dalli [2010-07-26 06:54:00 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome.

Yeah, that's true. Fashion changed practically every decade in the 20th century. I think it was due to the rise in technology, shift in economic classes (not so extreme) and other factors haha. Just a basic outline y'know. And yeah I'm not sure what it means either haha...just a side effect of wealth, mobility and mass production? haha

I found a cool site that talks about Victorian fashion and they have a section about the movement of fashion based on Pre-Raphaelite paintings, how they were dressed, and used that as a counter to the current trends.

She is beautiful! I especially like the little hat and all the other little details.

I just started reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but that isn't really the same XP

dilli-dalli In reply to slightly-caustic [2010-07-26 05:40:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!

Has Pride and Prejudice and Zombies been a good read, so far? I've seen it advertised so many times but I haven't been able to bring myself to buy it, yet- mostly because the cover is not something I'd want to see before going to bed...

There's a 'sequel' to P&P about Lydia's unfortunate life with Wickham that I think looks kind of interesting but, surely, it cannot compare with Regency Zombies.

I am only about 40 pages in, but it is great so far. It is very funny, but in a subtle way. It has such a bizarre topic, but it takes itself very seriously. I always hesitated to recommend a book before I have finished it, but I would definitely recommend the first 40 pages XP
