Description
Ah, another one I debated on the correct category for. Anthro, Macabe & Horror, Sci-Fi, or Surreal? Well, honestly, this thing scares the heck outta me, or at least disturbs me. But since it doesn't have "death and decay" (that's awfully narrow...), into surreal it goes. As always, if you think it's in the wrong spot, let me know.I will say this one has been touched up a bit in Paint Shop Pro, with a contrast fix and smudging to get rid of the ugly bits, but that was to get it to look like what it does in my sketchbook and prepare it for possible color. I'm hoping once I come up with a viable image that I can mirror it to sort of "frame" a title. We'll see. And, yeah, more gulper eel-inspired stuff. They're fun, darn it.
PLEASE NOTE: I've selected the "Advanced Critique Encouraged" option for a reason. This is a work in progress, and while I'm mainly looking for shading advice, any other tweaks you have to offer, little or big, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Nice little crit you have there! very creative, loving the mouth and the pose! The hands holding the mouth open just add so much more character to the peice!... It has a nice comic style feeling to it with the sharp angles and over exagerated features a bit. And the shading looks quite nice! (must have the solid darks and pure whites!! its a must in shading if it has no colour.. well at least thats what I say hehe) The feet strike me a bit odd though.. being solid instead of toed, but that I'll account for as style But one other thing I did notice a bit (and its a very minor and common flaw) that the creatures right foot (viewers left) should be placed further back (up from the other foot) to show a bit of perspective on it. As he is now he has a bit of a backwards lean to him, and with both feet seemingly together on the same level up front, he'd surely be in for a good butt bustin shortly after this picture was shot, being off balance and all .. hehe
but its not too noticeable, other than that, he looks great! I am deffinatly plus faveing this one!

Wow, thank you for the critique!
To be completely honest, yes, I skimped on the feet. Those would be my standard "Dillo doesn't want to draw toes today" feet. I'm rather embarrassed since this "work in progress" ended up on my business card.
You've caught one of my other bad habits, too. I will try to tweak my poses in the future so the're a little more "balanced".

I don't see any real flaws in this. The only thing that could be arguably wrong with it is that its left calf (its left, not the viewer's) seems a bit larger than the other, even when taking angle into account.

I tend to overexaggerate everything from the waist down, something that I need to keep in check. Thank you for the pointer!

*laughs* I'm glad you like it! Gulper eels are one of my favorite creatures, outside of armadillos.

Great anthro of a creature I never thought I'd see an anthro of, hehehe! The hands on the mouth creep me out a bit, somehow. The shading is great on the legs, though perhaps the highlight is a bit too circular on the upper left thigh to look really organic...um...but other than that, I like it a lot!

Thanks for the input! I'll work on that highlight, thank you for pointing it out.
