Description Okay, here we have some of the carious Lycanthropes and thier kin of my Dungeons and Dragons campaign world of Zaldor. Here we have a Female Natural Lycanthrope WereTiger a male Afflicted Lycanthrope Werewolf, a Male Shifter, a female Anthropomorphic Cougar, and a Male Awakened Wolverine.
In the world of Zaldor, Lycanthropy is common disease that causes animal shapeshifting in humanoids. Lycanthropy is in fact a Retro-Virus (though one of magical oragin). A Retro-Virus is a Virus that actually rewrites the DNA of that which it infects, adding in the DNA of an animal it picked up, and rewriting the DNA of the humanoid it has infected, making that animal more animal like. Once infected by the disease by a carrier, the virus rewrites the DNA of the infected under certain conditions, forcing pysical changes into an animal or a hybred animal with a humanoid stance.
In the World of Zaldor, no Lycanthrope is innatley evil, nor of any other alignment. While evil Werewolves are of course possible, Lycanthropes have just as much likelyhood for good or evil as any other humanoid, and it is the society and upbringing that determine thier alignments.

There are two types of Lycanthropes in the world of Zaldor. Natural Lycanthropes are born as Lycanthropes, and thus can infect other's with Lycanthropy through their scratch or bite. Natural Lycanthropes also have free control of thier ability to change shape. Lycanthrpes are also highly resistant to pysical damage, but not so from a silver weapon.
Afflicted Lycanthropes are born as humanoids, but contract Lycanthropy when scratched or bitten by the infectious bite of a Natural Lycanthrope. A Lycanthrope has less control over its shape changing, and certain situations can force it to change shape, such as a full moon or coming under direct harm. With partice and effort an afflicted Lycanthrope can willing change shape, or even choose to resist changing shape during a full moon or danger. Afflicted Lycanthropes are also resistant to damage, but not as much as Natural Lycanthropes.

Natural Lycanthropes are normally born of Afflicted Parents, for Natual Lycanthropes do not sire Natural Lycanthropes as thier own offspring. Two Natural Lycanthropes will give birth to an Awakened Animal, an animal with the intelligence of the humanoid part of its parents, and it is capible of speach, but its body is that of the animal side of its parents. Such a creature cannot change shape, nor can it resist da This is likely due to the fact that the Animal DNA that is written into the genetic code of the parents by the Lycanthropy Retro-Virus is too strong, leaving the offspring almost all animal, leaving only the mind left from the original humanoid genetic code.

If a Natural Lycanthropes were to mate with a normal unaffcted member of its race (ie a human natural Weretiger female mating with a normal human male) the result is instead an Anthropomorphic animal. Resembling the Hybred forms of Lycanthropes, Anthropomorphic animals, or somethimes just Anthromorphs or Anthros, resemble animals with humanoid bodies, including long arms ending in hands with fingers and opposable thumbs. A Distingishing factor is that Anthros cannot change shape into an animal or humaoid, nor do they spread Lycanthropy or resist damage. They are just as intelligent as thier humanoid parents however.

It is because of thier inability to produce any offspring of thier own from breeding that Natural Lycanthropes create Afflicted Lycanthropes. Afflicted Lycanthrope's offspring are almost always Natural Lycanthropes. Lycanthropy as an affliction is curable once infected, but those who do not cure it an sire thier own offspring give rise to a creature that is the same as that which infected them. A single Afflicted Lycanthrope mating with a normal member of its humanoid race has a 50% chance of giving birth to a normal member of its race, or a 50% chance of giving birth to a Natural Lycanthrope. Two Afflicted Lycanthropes have a near 100% of giving birth to a Natural Lycanthrope. A Natural Lycanthrope that mates with an Afflicted Lycanthrope also has a 70%chance of giving birth to a Natural Lycanthrope, though it has a 30% chance of giving birth to an Awakened Animal as well.

The last Lycanthrope kin are known as Shifters. Shifters are the result of a diluted Lycanthropy liniage. Generally resulting from A Natural Lycanthrope; who was the offspring of one humanoid and one afflicted Lycanthrope; and one human, having 3 humanoid grand parents and one Lycanthrope grand parent. Shifters have only slightly animalistic apperances, such as long finger and toe nails, pointed ears, odd shaped noses, and long facial hair such as sideburns even among females. Shifters can briefly manifest other more animalistic charictaristics such as sharp claws or teeth, strong scent, or even tempory wings thanks to thier heritage as shapeshifters.
Shifters are common enough that they have bred with others of thier kind and started thier own race. The races can breed with each other despite being born of different animals, and most next generation Lycanthropes are normally a mix of animal herritage, though mostly mammilian carnivores such as wolves, big cats and bears.
Of one note of intrest it should be stated that Lycanthropes of different animal species bases can mate as long as thier humanoid halves are compatable (ie a male human werewolf with a female human Weretiger). Offspring from such a pairing are not hybreds, but are simply randomly of either parents base animal.
Lastly, Shifters, Anthromorphs and Awakened animals can mate with Lycanthropes themselves, it just changes the percentage of what the offspring will be based on the amount of Lycanthropy Virus DNA in thier bodies.

Well, I hope that wasn't too confusing and rambling. Enjoy the picture.
