Description
Effulgence:The state of being effulgent; extreme brilliancy; a flood of light; great luster or brightness; splendor.
UPDATE: If there is one thing i love, then its constructive feedback. I revisted a few things that my eye missed, and here is the final version with a few touches (better atmosphere for bigger planet in top piece, more star contrast in top and middle left pieces, and slight blur in middle left)
This is one of those deviations with an ironic story behind it, lets explain.
Im sure most of you heard about the blackout that affected the northeastern part of the United States and a big part of Canada. Because there was no light and nothing interesting to do, * superkev went to the beach and started taking pictures of insects. He's skill with depth of field always impresses me and i got the idea of trying to apply the effect to space scenes. So where's the irony here? Well, I got the inspiration for a light themed deviation from pictures taken due to the lack of "light."
OMFG THATS DEEP!!!1111one
So anyways, I originally started with a single work, but, as usual, lots of possibilities came up and i was hard pressed to pick one. I figured that i'd make a poster like this one, since i have an empty space in my wall and it would look pretty good there. So i made this with my room in mind, thats why i used that typo (which i can already tell lots of you are gonna hate).
Another thing that i got to experiment with was city lights on planets, you can see them in pretty much all of the sections here. You can tell that they look different in all of them, this is to show the different settings. Personally i like the ones from the top and right the most, since they are subtle. I also thought of using city lights to contrast with the fact that the blackout was the very base of the depth of field effect idea
I used photoshop for EVERYTHING except the asteroids in the bottom pic.
Things i like:
I like the sun in the top 3 pieces. I like how its not sharp and its rather smooth.
I like how the depth of field effect came out, it adds depth.
I like the color variations. I tried to make it all monochromatic, but the colors were more dramatic.
Things i dont like:
Im not satisfied with the starfields. They could use more contrast, but then again they would alter the feel of the piece for the worse. Suns always get in the way. However its nothing disasterous.
Thats about as technical and as thorough as i can get without boring the most of you (although i know many people dont even bother to read the descriptions, meh)
Big thanks to *superkev for his help on helping me get the depth of field effect right, and for pointing out that its impossible to actually get "pictures" like these in space, since the lens would have to be bigger than the planet and considering the distance at which the picture is taken.
I hope you enjoy this one, dont hesitate to leave feedback, as usual

you've done it again. another great piece by you. Your galaxy artwork is so amazing. You should create posters and artwork and post them up in galeries and create posters for Star Wars or something.... ... yes....
"Well done", is what im trying to say.

Great work, But I'd like to make a suggestion -
On the bottom portion of the picture - all of the planets have nearly the same Crescent-moon look. I looked at it and thought this was impossible - All of the stars/planets could not possibly be the same distance from the 'explosion', in you will. I think you should uncover some of the stars/planets and add a little more light to them. More people could then see the texture of the planets; and it would add alot more of those vibrant colors to the overall picture. Then again, this is YOUR work - But I think more people would like it if you worked on it a little more.
Great work, I'd like to see more.

Great work with depth of field. I can see the purpose of these.
I'm still in awe regarding the skill used to create the entire compositions. The creativity and skill that have gone into these is inspiring actually. The shadows/reflections of the sun-like star on the planets is great.
However, honestly, the bright star cluster on the 2nd square looks a little dodgy. Otherwise, great work!

I need to get back to art making... Excellent as usual. I like how this doesnβt look like you used the axis flair plugins. The grouping adds much needed interest and is a great change form the single shot I'm used to seeing and doing. I seem to be running out of ideas for color schemes in my stuff..you keep taking all the good combos...

this is a great piece of art. even after working with your planet tutorial i couldnt even imagine doing something like this. your pictures are always so big that it lets you see all the wonderful detail you put so much work into thats one thing i love about your work. plus you make the most detailed descriptions and journal entries ive seen here on deviant art. keep up the great work and lots of entertained gallery viewing time.

I'd buy it if it were not for the definition of 'effulgence' at the bottem; I'm not partial to it.

very nice!
only point of criticism: i think that your depth of field effect in this scene really looks fake. As you said yourself, this kind of pics cannot be taken because of the large distances.
GJ anyway

EXCELLENT! i like the way you put it into a poster, so many times do i have different versions of the same image and have a hard time submitting just one, the depth is great and the texturing as well, i think maybe if you added a curve adjustment layer to the image you might get some better contrast and color, anyways just a suggestion.

I love the whole feeling of this pic, but there is this one thing.
The sun on the lastpic is a bit to big, maybe thats the point but I just don't think it fits.
And one more thing, do you have to show the sun in every pic? could you maybe hide it a bit more so that the pic is a bit less bright and you get a silluet of the planets? That would have been great
Anyways great pic.
Take care and dont die!

The textures on the planets are very detailed, especially the top one. I think the blur was a good experiment it doesnt look at all that bad, but the there is something off about the starfield, in places where you have a big light source i see stars all around them, but they would be very faint or invisible at these points and through out this piece they stay the same ocpactiy so maybe at darker areas have 'em a little brighter.
Hope that could help a little
-3days thats pretty tight, anways great job

I only think that there is a little bit too much stars in the background. When you've got sun shining into your face you won't see so many of them
Anyway very good pic
